![]() Wow is all I can say . The first thing I learned in Debate and also in Speech class is that if you get stuck it is better to just pause for a second than say UH.
My teacher told me that when you are speaking in front of people that when you say UH it gives the audience the impression that you are at a loss for words and not prepared. Then again I was educated in America and as Riot would say America isnt known for its general education level of its citizens. ![]()

![]() thing is, many of those interviews have the questions laid out in advance. it's when there are off the cuff questions that he starts with the uh.....um....uh.....
but, yeah. no truth at all in that. i'm just making it all up because i have an agenda. it's not because i've actually witnessed it in action or anything. ![]() |

lol you know, it's a petty point...but it's still funny. i think it's akin to sarah palin not being able to name any founding fathers- i like them all-she said. i've been a die-hard redskin fan my entire life. i can even name the freaking punter from way back when (mike bragg, wore #4. mark mosely, one of the last straight on kickers was #3)....there is no way i'd ever change teams. been a caps fan since their inception-i was eight. it's hard pulling for those teams now, living down here. but i still do it. but he's a politician, none of them can give a straight answer on anything. |

Calling Obama - well known for his public speaking ability - "inarticulate" is yes, pretty beyond absurd ![]() You guys don't have to like listening to him, but classifying him "as inarticulate as Bush" is beyond a stretch ![]()

and i think it's a stretch to say that someone is a good speaker based solely on prepared remarks. however, when obama is not prepared, he's a big uhm-er. do you think someone sounds articulate when they say uh, um repeatedly? i didn't say he was inarticulate, i said when he stammers and makes noises while formulating a response that makes him sound that way. big difference. |

Someone else just reminded me of another President, also considered a very good speaker, who had a similar pausing, word-choosing hesitant style: " Uh, .... well ...... " ![]() Ronald Reagan ![]()
