When it comes to NYRA - knowledge of the participants, quality races, lots of maiden races with well-bred horses
Gulfstream - lots of maiden races, best turf races during winter, knowledge of participants Keeneland - public's inability to understand synthetic surface, quality fields, lots of maiden races with well-bred horses |

I also go with small field sizes with 2 or 3 horses who routinely get beat by many lengths. Preferably, I like to play maiden claimers at Santa Anita where every horse has at least some experience.
I think the more horses you can eliminate for certain, the better chance you have at winning, even if the horse you are playing on top is short odds. I like to play the "sure thing" on top, and try to put the 3rd or 4th choice in the second slot. Graded stakes races would be my second choice, as most of the field has consistent form. The races I stay away from.... -Full field cheap non-maiden claiming races (past the maiden ranks, anyone can win a claiming race....no one ever has consistent form) -Races where half the field is making their first start (you might as well throw darts) -5 furlong turf sprints (reminds me too much of quarter horse racing) |

I typically like the west coast tracks better than the east coast which is weird because I am from Boston myself
1. Better weather --- fast/firm is good for me 2. Better fields --- less scratches usually 3. Better jocks IMO |

Excuse my blatant display of oppositional behavior but the track I would never actually want to bet on (I mean unless I were there) is Sha Tin. (Happy Valley too).
My brain would explode. I love these old horses way too much to do anything more than swoon. ![]() |
