Tracks you wager on

What are the top 3 reasons you wager on the tracks that you do?

The Indomitable DrugS 01-27-2010 11:56 AM

* Small field size

* strong odds-on favorite

* two or more longshots who routinely get beat about 30 lengths at the level to throw out.

1. knowledge of the horses, horseman and racing surface.
2. pool and field size
3. what time and days they run on

When it comes to NYRA - knowledge of the participants, quality races, lots of maiden races with well-bred horses

Gulfstream - lots of maiden races, best turf races during winter, knowledge of participants

Keeneland - public's inability to understand synthetic surface, quality fields, lots of maiden races with well-bred horses

I don't limit myslef to tracks as much as I do situtations. I don't care about Ramon Dominguez on a 3/5 shot or pick 3s/ 4s and exactas that pay $20 if you're lucky.

1. Field size (at least 8 runners)
2. Competitive fields (as opposed to boring "formful" chalk-a-thons)
3. knowledge of the trainers/jockeys and the bloodlines of the horses. I'm not up on New Mexico or New Jersey breds.

I also prefer turf racing

1. Whether or not I'm at the track - at the track I'll bet anything, when I'm not at the track I'll barely bet anything.

2/3. Multi Race Wagers with quality, established fields - I love the all stakes P4s. I absolutely despise multi race sequences with maidens or cheap claimers in them that have tons of horses with no form over the surface or at the distance. I hate having to include horses just because I don't know how bad they are. Give me an All Stakes Pick 4 with a couple deep fields and I'll watch it on TV and throw a couple hundred at the P4 and the individual races.

1) bet on my horses

2) bet against lofty banner

3) i like the multi race wagers, wherever they may be...if i can find a single that i like in a sequence count me in

I also go with small field sizes with 2 or 3 horses who routinely get beat by many lengths. Preferably, I like to play maiden claimers at Santa Anita where every horse has at least some experience.

I think the more horses you can eliminate for certain, the better chance you have at winning, even if the horse you are playing on top is short odds.

I like to play the "sure thing" on top, and try to put the 3rd or 4th choice in the second slot.

Graded stakes races would be my second choice, as most of the field has consistent form.

The races I stay away from....

-Full field cheap non-maiden claiming races (past the maiden ranks, anyone can win a claiming race....no one ever has consistent form)

-Races where half the field is making their first start (you might as well throw darts)

-5 furlong turf sprints (reminds me too much of quarter horse racing)

I typically like the west coast tracks better than the east coast which is weird because I am from Boston myself

1. Better weather --- fast/firm is good for me

2. Better fields --- less scratches usually

3. Better jocks IMO

Excuse my blatant display of oppositional behavior but the track I would never actually want to bet on (I mean unless I were there) is Sha Tin. (Happy Valley too).

My brain would explode.

I love these old horses way too much to do anything more than swoon. :D

1)Time Zone combined with time, motive and opportunity to bet.

2)Knowledge of the riders, trainers, horses and track

2)Seeing a horse going that I've somehow noted before....I never play Louisiana, but when I saw General Quarters going last Saturday I bought a form and wagered on the race.

SCUDSBROTHER 01-27-2010 10:28 PM

1) Knowledge of trainer/jockey combos

2) How many middle-priced horses come in? All Chalk n' Bombs be Scuds' Viet Nam.

3) Consistent track surface

-BT- 01-28-2010 09:37 AM

* good turf racing

* low takeouts

* b/c i have some sort of grasp on the handicapping of the track
