i asked google, and saw that number-and more than once, including from INS. it's down from a high of 12 million or so in 07. perhaps your site includes legal immigrants?

at any rate, this thread got me thinking, and searching...and i found this:

http://www.cis.org/articles/2004/fiscal.pdf

still in the process of reading it, but it certainly is enlightening thus far. i was unaware just how much of a financial drain that illegals are on the federal budget; one would have to assume that it's a drain on state budgets as well-for those experiencing high levels of illegals in their state. no doubt scuds will chime in on this altho california has other issues as well, such as education in that state making up 40% of the total budget costs, and retirement pay for govt workers being incredibly high.

you also need to take into consideration how much money is sent home rather than being re-invested back into our economy, taxed every step of the way.

am I the only one who thinks its noble to send money back to your family in a very poor country?

I have more respect for most illegals in this country than I do for most citizens.

i think i'm the only one who doesn't give half a damn whether someone else knows how to speak english. it certainly is no difficulty for me if someone else chooses not to learn it-has absolutely no affect on my quality of life at all. why is it a big deal?
i had a guy tell me he didn't like that mexican immigrants fly their flag. i told him i was very proud of my irish heritage, and if i flew that flag no one would care. why is mexico different? back a hundred years ago, it was a different story, with 'irish need not apply' signs everywhere. he was a reasonable fellow, and listened to what i had to say, and i did the same. i think both of us learned a bit from the conversation.

I could care less what flag anyone wants to fly or what language they want to speak. I don't think every time I call in on a bill or visit the ATM I need to be asked whether I want it in english or spanish and I don't want any taxpayer money going to educating anyone here who is illegal. I also expect police to do their jobs and arrest people for illegal things including sneaking into the country. We complain our class rooms are full to capacity, we need jobs and by simply following the law we could improve the situation now and we wouldn't even have to HOPE just DO!

Our borders are way to open to both illegals and terrorists and until they are shored up fighting terrorism like we are now is akin to you going out and doing surveillance on someone you suspect is going to rob your house while leaving your doors wide open to anyone else. Sadly we are finally at the point we are so incompetent we are unable to track and capture a terrorist whose father tried to turn him in!

I guess, if people have to help pay for Mexicans' kids being educated, then they'd at least like them to fly an American Flag. We allow a reasonable amount of people to come here (legally.) Again, those who want to control our borders are only asking for the same protection people in other countries have. You can teach people a lot, but you can't teach them to be responsible in the breeding shed. They either get it, or they don't. People from poor cultures usually breed beyond their means. We don't need their cultural problems imported to us. There are two main reasons people are poor. The one that's easiest to control is breeding beyond one's means. You can have all the Social Justice efforts you want, but it will only work if people breed within their means. That is hard enough to get our own poor people to do. It's near impossible to get people from other cultures to do it. Simply put..We can't afford illegal immigration to continue. That's a fact. The 9-11 filth was here because we preferred being nice to being safe. I'll tell ya what. I'd allow anybody from Latin America to come here if the payoff was no more Muslims being allowed to immigrate here (or go to college here.)

you and me both, so you arent the only one. It doesnt bother me at all if people decide to speak spanish. In fact I feel more Americans should try to be bilingual. or however its spelled. (though I am not and would love to learn spanish, i just keep putting it off)

I think everyone should be documented. It's very bizarre that people could come in here, bypass all the legal immigrants who are waiting patiently with all the paperwork, and not get punished. And they eat up our health resources because when they get sick, they take up space in a hospital that should be reserved for a legitimate citizen.

i'd imagine more money isn't spend by fat cats who ship their money to offshore accounts.
the folks here may be sending money home, but how much do they spend here as well? it's a lot bigger picture than many imagine. it's a complex problem, and it'll take a complex solution.
