Notice this bitch doesn't mention pre-existing conditions, or coverage for catastrophic. Why do you think about half of all bankruptcies are caused by Medical Bills? Most thought they had good medical coverage. This no-nothing bitch wants to keep allowing the insurance companies to just keep doing that. How many times does she have to be caught telling lies before people realize she is a pathological liar? Most have gotten away from that "Government will take control of the life n' death decisions" bullshit, but not this dense individual. She says Dems are gunna be surprised when her White Trash followers come to Washington? That's another lie. Nobody can be surprised when they do that.

How Pelosi is in her position is an insult to anyone who has ever died for this great country. She's the absolute worst.

This whole health bill is so bogus and full of crap all it will do is harm our country and not actually help the citizens. More in debt for the same old crap.

Dems have no balls to really reform health care the right way. Too greedy to do torm reform. and if this crap goes through with nothing on pre-existing conditions everyone in the government should be fired. Spend 1.2 trillion to do nothing. I absolutely despise congress and Pelosi is lower than scum.

Ms. Bachmann isn't well-known for dealing with reality-based issues. She keeps snapping in the air at her secret imaginary scary thoughts. Do her constituents even listen to what she has to say any more?

Im sure all the people who can work that are unemployed and illegals are kissing O'Dumbass and the Bitch of the House Pelosi's ass. I dont know about you but every chance I get im voting Republican when it comes to Senate and Representatives being up for election in the future. Hopefully the governor races in Virginia and New Jersey are a sign of what is going to happen down the road for the worthless and clueless Democratic party. Alot of people are saying that no one could do a worse job than Bush did when he was in office. I think O'Dumbass is making people wish they voted for McCain instead. O'Dumbass didnt get my vote in 08 and sure the hell isnt in 12. If this ridiculous health insurance bill makes it all the way through its a shame that unemployed people who are milking the system and illegals are going to get health insurance. But I guess this is the O'Dumbass way of life. Wonder what O'Dumbass is going to do next? Maybe invite Bin Laden and the rest of his posse over to the White House for Thanksgiving dinner and of course drink some beer with O'Dumbass.

Thank you, for this exceedingly reasonable post.

Does anyone actually have an even remotely non-partisan analysis of this bill? Seriously, I'm trying to educate myself about the details, but a youtube video of Michelle Bachmann is not exactly where I'm comfortable finding my news about the ins and outs of this bill.

Brian: I realize that I'm a neo-con to most here but it doesn't take a partyline
view to see this bill is so flawed, that it should be buried at sea. Just the simple math doesn't work. We all know that everybody has a spin on it, but when the govts' own CBO gives the literal acct'ing of the merit of the bill, and the president disses it, it stinks! Notice how I didn't pile on.....
I would welcome a serious change to healthcare and tort reform and people not trying to screw the system, but it's taken 50 yrs to get it this way...don't crush the system by creating a monster that will never be balanced or controlled.

i'd have said about 50% of this board lives in kentucky which makes your observation seem unusually optimistic.

I'm not in favor of the bill but the ironic thing is that if illegal aliens got health insurance and had to pay for it, that would probably be fairer than what we have right now. Right now, they don't pay for insurance and they get free medical care. My housekeeper had colon cancer several years ago before I knew her. She had no insurance and she got totally free treatment.

Do you know what most illegal aliens do right now if they get sick? They go to the emergency room and get free treatment. Emergency rooms can't turn anyone down.

If they're going to get free treatment, they should at least have to pay something into the system.

it might cost some people nothing, but that care is far from free. it's why the rest of us pay $400-500 for an e.r. visit. it's also why i do my best not to go to the e.r. when tony broke his heel we went to our doctor since we knew he had an x-ray machine, and that the hospital here couldn't do a thing for him if it was broken. no ortho on staff, they'd have sent us elsewhere. when my oldest broke his arm, they said yep, it's broken-where do you want to go? and then they charged more for their e.r. then the hospital did that actually treated him! it's one hell of a system.

and yeah, obama says no coverage for illegals, but as you say, they'd just go to the e.r. you may as well allow them copays for the doctors, it would be cheaper that way.

I will admit you raise a good point. Getting something is better than getting nothing. Do you really think an illegal alien deserves to have same benefits as an American citizen?

they don't have the same benefits. but how can you turn away an emergency, regardless of who they are? they're still a human being-you can't just let them lay outside the door, can you?

Consider that this is EXACTLY what the proponents of this health care bill mean when they say it will cut costs. If it does, it will be because it denies care to millions of people. Not the illegal aliens, since we are unwilling to seal the border apparently, and they can't be asked to indicate whether they are citizens or not. Conveniently without ID, this couldn't be verified anyway.

So we will continue to pay for illegal aliens, and everyone else who will get "free" healthcare, at the expense of others since we will increase demand and not increase supply of medical services. That is the mechanism by which the long Soviet-style lines for toilet paper and potatoes used to occur in the 1980s. It will be no different except that some of those in line will die before getting seen by a doctor.

It's also worth noting that if the bill decreases payments to physicians in an attempt to supress expenses, it will be less desirable to actually become a physician. This means that over time there will be less doctors, so over the long term you will have increasing demand due to illegal "immigration" and decreased supply due to less medical school graduates. That must translate to higher prices and an increasing mortality among those who need healthcare.

Note that the use of the word "alien" is purposeful, and the term "illegal immigrant" is nonsensical, since logic demands that you would need to have permission from a host country to emigrate there. If you do not have permission, you are trespassing as an illegal alien, breaking the law. Only here in America could you as a lawbreaker get medical care and social services in "sanctuary cities" whose mayors and councilmen are themselves breaking the law by circumventing Federal statues in refusing to enforce them or aid the agencies charged with that responsibility.

I agree with you on your statement to a certain point. It seems like they get things that they dont deserve and they arent tax paying citizens like you and me. Dont you think that because this country supports illegal aliens that this is a contributing as too why our economy is in shambles. Its a shame none of our elected officials have the courage to do something with our borders and prevent illegals from getting a free ride when they enter our country.

I agree with you. I don't know how we could turn someone down with a true emergency. For this reason, one could make an argument that everyone should be forced to have insurance. In that way, people who have insurance and pay their monthly premiums would not be forced to pay for people who don't have insurance and get free medical service when they come down with a serious illness.

I don't know what the laws are in other states, but in California people are forced to have auto insurance. It is the law and it makes sense. It makes sense because if someone has an accident and they are at fault, they need to be able to pay the damges that they caused. If they didn't have insurance they probably would not be able to pay the damages.

Medical insurance is somewhat analagous to that in the sense that people need to have insurance just in case of an emergency. Otherwise, everyone else gets stuck with their bill. As Danzig said, one of the reasons hospitals are so expensive is that they need to charge us a fortune to make up for the people that get free service.

I don't what the answer to any of this is. Some people truly can't afford insurance, so how can you force them to buy insurance? What about the issue of serious pre-existing conditions? What insurance company would want to give insurance to a person with a serious pre-existing condition? If an insurance company knows for sure that they are going to lose a fortune on a person, why would they insure the person? Insurance companies are not charities. They are businesses.

Anyway, there is no simple answer to any of this and that is why nothing has been done on the issue for so many years. Nobody can agree on what the best way to tackle this issue is. I honestly have no idea what should be done. I don't think the current system is great but I'm not sure that we could come up with a new system that is better.

The answer is National Identification Cards, and if you don't have yours on your person when the ambulance picks you up, they stop CPR once you get to the hospital until they can accurately determine your citizenship status.
