I think this is far more a loss for the mayor than Obama who i don't think gives a crap about Chicago or Daley. This was Da Mayor's baby. Locally the people were just showing up for the victory party only to be told go home.

Dell, to not even be in the final 2 is a world wide slap at Obama. If he had simply lost to Rio, different story....The fact is I really think Obama is arrogant enough to go over there and think it will fall in his lap. I'm, tired of the news conferences and late night TV shows.

Randall..he had to go man...He didn't want to but was in a no win situation. If he didn't go and they lost it would have been unpatriotic, etc.

Nonsense, you think Bush goes? He didn't have to do anything. Trotting out Oprah and reading from the prompter should be enough....The problems are here. We simply don't need the Olympics here. I'm happy for Rio. Now create some jobs and pull the troops out.

SO he was underexposed? If there is a country in worse shape economically than the US it is Britain. And I'm not sure the Olympics is a net gain to an economy at all....GB has by far a worse debt problem than the US. They'll implode before we do.....but we won't be far behind.

They wouldn't have asked Bush because he was an idiot. But that's a different subject. It's not like he was the first World Leader to go to this

This is, of course, pure nonsense.

But my guess is you and everyone else who will try to score that point already know that.

If it's a slap at anything, it's at the way the country has been arrogantly handled since 2000. I'm not sure that the IOC not giving the U.S. the Olympics was predicated on the last 8 months, or Obama.

Something tells me that it's not the last eight months of American leadership that made Chicago lose. To be perfectly intellectually honest (something you may want to try sometime in situations like this), something tells me it has nothing at all to do with the last President either, even if that is an infinitely more likely scenario if we're inclined to place blame on that office.

The fact that it was going to be a gigantic clusterf*ck of massive proportions from a logistical perspective is probably the "prohibitive" frontrunner for real reason why Chicago didn't get it.

But why worry about things like that when a pathetic attempt at scoring cheap political points is just so much fun?! I understand the impulse, I really do.

Agreed. I couldn't imagine how the city and surrounding suburbs for 50 miles wouldn't be completely shut down due to gridlock, trying to hold an Olympics on the lakefront. The affordable hotel rooms needed alone are mind-boggling.

Love my home town, but not the place for a summer Olympics. Rather glad they didn't get it.

Brian,
Score political points? **** political points. Businesses are in the fetal position and I have to hear about Cash for Clunkers and green shoots... Sure Bush sucked and ruinined America's image. I don't think people were voting for the same policies when Obama took over. He has been awful. And I voted for Nader, so I'm no righty.

That's great that I now know your positions on the economy....and that has what to do with the Olympics, and in what way in any universe correlates to the world giving Obama an F U because YOU and REPUBLICANS don't like Obama?

Oh wait, nothing.

If your response to everything I typed was only what you just typed back, I guess for lack of a nicer way of putting it, what's your f*cking point?

I guess my point would be that right now, our president shouldn't be hobnobbing in Denmark or on Letterman's couch or making another ESPN commercial. That's my point.

Exactly...Their final 45 minute presentation was a snooze fest and no one trusted that Daley could pull it off without bankrupting the city.

I heard more than once Daley wants to add another star to the city flag and this was his chance
