Why was the Awesome Again so cheap?

As for a name for the Smart Strike ridgling, maybe "A. P. Indy like" or 'AP Indys other nut"

Awesome Again is capable of any type including frogs and 'Zappers.. He doesn't know he was cheap so what's the difference.. They all have issues either they have them at the sale or they have them behind the gate after you invest 30 to 40 k to get them to the races. You just can't buy the prettiest spotless horse only a few guys get those.

Yeah, I realize all of that. That sire seems to throw very few useful horses, but when they are good, they are pretty good.

More specifically, I wanted to know what flaws were present in this horse that let him go for so little. It was just an out of curiosity type of question.

He had some xray issues but nothing major and he simply didnt have much female family for the book 2 crowd. Really was poorly placed, should have been a weekend horse, probably would have brought more like $50k. He is a really nice athlete with some room to improve.

Wait soon they will do full body cat scans, then every little mark will matter to some folks. I would suspect at least half of all G1 winning wouldnt XRay clean.

Interesting. The dam was a pretty good runner though right?
I would assume that an Awesome Again/Skip Trial should have some stamina, & coupling that with being a "nice athlete" sure makes him seem like quite a value at that price.

That horse has no idea how much he cost. You feed him train him and pray no matter what they cost.

Exactly. The breeding nicked out really well and he was kind of that guy that teams draft in the 4th round with a shitload of potential.

The Smart Strike was more of a solid first round pick.

Nice horses! Personally, I like your Johar filly the best, followed by the Johar colt. She looks like a dandy to me. I really don't know how to appraise racehorses, but for eventing she is top notch! Good luck with all of them. Its a buyer's market. Great time to invest.
