Im not saying they are going to win the whole thing but they will contend...barring injury of course.
Call me crazy, but how is that different than what they did last year with Jackson, then Frerotte, then Jackson again playing?? They won their division and made the playoffs. Does Favre really put them in the Super Bowl? On the plus side after his bicep surgery, they also found he has a torn rotator cuff. Call me crazy, but signing a 40 year old guy coming off bicep surgery with a torn rotator cuff for 25 million seems like not the smartest move in the book. Even when he had the great season two years ago he stunk it up horribly in the NFC championship game and he was not good last year either.

so just think what they could have done with a decent QB, considering what they managed in spite of jackson and frerotte. seems like 20 years ago when gus was in d.c.

Last 4 games last year....

Tavarias Jackson 57 of 89 740 yards 8 touchdowns 1 interception 115.4 quarterback rating...

Brett Favre 75 of 132 764 yards 2 touchdowns 8 interceptions 53.3 quarterback rating.

You'd have a real hard time convicing me that Favre is better than Jackson right now.

So in the end was the whole Favre saga a giant success, a dismal failure, or somewhere in between? Favre certainly exceeded my expectations and had a really good season leading his team to a first round bye. On the other hand, he didn't get to the Super Bowl, he Favred it in the end costing his team a chance at attempting a game winning FG, and does anyone really believe with their schedule that they wouldn't have been a playoff team without Favre? Now they go into next season with just as uncertain a QB situation as they were in this year. They'll have to endure an offseason of "will Favre be back" and are no closer to knowing whether Travaris Jackson will be a serviceable NFL QB. I tend to think it was more a success than a failure since they made the NFC Championship but once they got Favre it was pretty much Super Bowl or bust so in that respect it was a failure.

Also, do people think Childress will/should be canned? I think he should be, that was one of the most poorly coached games I have ever seen, but I don't think he will be.

I agree that Favre had a tremendous year...hopefully he won't string out the Vikes like he did last year. They came very close to winning that game, but there were plenty of miscues by both teams. I think Childress will be back, but he better get an infusion of creativity before next season.

I think Favre had an incredible year and elevated a questionable rookie (Harvin) and two mediocre receivers ( Berrian and Rice) to career years. The throws he made and the leadership he brought to that team was the reason for their success and if he retires next year (and I hope he drags that decision out forever), the Vikings will be lucky to be .500.

I also think that Childress' timeout management and play calling in that game, and specifically the 4th quarter, needs to be talked about. And who takes responsibility for 12 men in the huddle? As bad as Favre's pick was, it should never have come down to them needing to throw on third down.

Part of that could just be the schedule. They play the AFC East and NFC East next year (1st and 4th in the Sagarin) as opposed to the AFC North and NFC West (5th and 8th in the Sagarin). That could easily be 2-4 extra losses.

Percy Harvin didnt do anything this year that he didnt do last year at FL.

He was by far the best football player on the field for FL's 2008 championship, and underrated in the draft because of behavior issues and maybe a lack of wonderlick smarts.

He's the only player on the Vikings that I like!

A dismal failure.
They were the better team yesterday and basically gave the game away. Between the turnovers and the terrible coaching they pretty much gave the game to the Saints. I don't think he will be canned, but I think he should be. What happened there in the last 2 1/2 minutes is unforgiveable.
I thought Favre played great yesterday. Took a beating and made some great throws. As far as the pick goes, yes it was a bad decision but the terrible coaching put him in a spot where he needed to get them back into FG range. The guy was trying to make a play from a position that the conservative coaching (all of a sudden) and terrible penalty put him into.

It's already starting, and we all need this "what will Favre do" exercise for our national health. As much as it pains me, Favre was great this year. Great. They were as close to the Super Bowl as you can possibly be.

I honestly don't think you can blame Childress for the 5 turnovers which could have easily been 7 turnovers yesterday.

I can certainly blame him for putting Percy Harvin in at RB instead of Chester Taylor when Harvin coughed it up.

Huge success. Favre played great all year and forced a throw because they made a huge blunder with the 12 men in the huddle penalty. If they don't get that penalty, they don't throw on 3rd down, they pick up a couple yards rushing and have a manageable 45 yard field goal for a good kicker to go to the Super Bowl. Yeah it was a Favre moment but my hats off to him, he played great all year. If he stays, Minnesota will be right there next year.

That said, I have a bet with Kevin on the Saints to win the NFC from week 2 so I'm happy to collect and will be rooting for them in the Super Bowl.

I don't get the criticism of Childress yesterday. Peterson ran for 125 yesterday....they should have run him on 1st and 2nd down from the 33 that last drive. He gets 5 yards, it's easy Longwell range...easy. Perhaps the 12 men was his fault, but the two runs on 1st and 2nd down was absolutely the right thing to do.

farve blows. some games he looks like superman. but then he has equally poor games. he'll lose as many as he'll win for you. He's as consistent as Riots GOP beliefs.
