I don't disagree -- term limits shouldn't be necessary, but we've already invalidated the one central assumption of the political writings that founded our philosophy as a nation: "Given a reasonable populace, ..."

Our population is now polarized, and many of those who vote Democratic are voting for a check. I don't care if it's a social security check, welfare check, unemployment check -- whatever it is...if you are voting for a check you are bought and paid for. And THAT is why term limits appear to be necessary. The real answer is to reduce the dependency on these checks. The voter doesn't use reason anymore -- just dependency.

The Republicans vote for a check too, but it's their own paycheck, and they'd like to keep more of it -- not entirely unreasonable.
