I'm honestly shocked nobody has died in the last three or four years from the things that happen in the infield at Preakness. I would have to imagine MJC is probably thinking the same thing. If you guys had seen just how many people there were last year coming out of the infield either bloody from stray beer can grenades or otherwise incapacitated and on stretchers, you might consider eliminating unlimited alcohol in the infield as well.

You guys really think it will be that big of an impact? People will just get more bombed in the parking lot before going in. Now, if they start cracking down on the tailgating in the parking lot then all bets are off.

Ah, the old days of rolling in with kegs seem far away now.

You really think it's a safety decision, not a shortsighted gamble to sell more booze? I'm down with giving the benefit of the doubt, I'd just like to know what you think.

Not that you asked me, but if I was the owner of Pimlico and I saw the footage that you posted from you tube, I would cancel BYOB as well...I'm sure their premiums drop a bundle and the chances for a $50 Million lawsuit do as well. I'm all for beer, but as a business decision, it's hard to argue with that.

And if they sell some extra booze, so be it

Parking is a nightmare at the Preakness. It's not a tailgating event. I doubt it'll cut 75,000 off the attendance, but 30,000 or so is very possible, IMO.

I don't know, on the far side of the grandstand when I was there, there was a pretty big lot that had a bunch of RVs in it of people tailgating pretty hard. I have a feeling the people who were only going to party in the first place will find a way to get it done beforehand in the parking lot. It also depends what they price beers at on the infield. If they try and charge $8 a beer it will hurt future attendance. Charge $4 or less and you'll have more people willing to go despite not being able to bring in their own beer.

what ateam said. people dont tailgate at the preakness... they bring there booze in at 8 am and party all day. I dont think attendence will be cut by 75k this year. but next year if they really eliminate alcohol it will be cut by at least 50k next year.

Kids didnt go there to watch horses... they go to party.
