Serious or less Serious is fine with me...I leave it to each of you to sort out which may be good upsides or not.
I'm sticking to my vow to not bet the Breeders Cup in protest of the creation of b.s. races to puff up the two-day schedule in order to make more money, and in protest of "ladies day," which forces you to buy tickets for both days if you want to see the best fillies and mares as well as the best colts and horses, and in protest of the apparent intent to never run it anywhere, in the future, other than Santa Anita, Belmont and, maybe CD.

Incidentally, Jay Cronley also claimed, in his most recent article, that the mud was kind to him last year at Monmouth: http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/hor...jay&id=3629870

The upside is that within just a few short weeks, it will be over.

The past couple of years I have gambled more on Breeders Cup day then any other day of the year. Not this year. I have averaged pushing close to $300 thru the windows on this day, this year I doubt I will push $100. One real simple reason, the surface.

Not too mention I hate the fact they have it split over two days.

Yes, the Breeders' Cup is trying to make more money...

Yes, the two-day schedule is puffed up, currently...

I look at it this way: they're trying to expand their business and not doing it very smoothly. I know there will be some dilution of the product, but maybe in a few years we'll wonder what all the fuss was about (if they are successful).

I still haven't figured out the Cushion Track, or PolyTrack, or Tapeta, let alone the Pro-Ride. But I'm still going to bet it, because there are opportunities to bet good horses at long odds.

Churchill Downs has the Oaks on Friday and the Derby on Saturday. Breeders' Cup is trying to keep the same format in an expanded mode. I think Friday (Ladies' Day) will probably be less crazy, so I may go that day, and bet online on Saturday. Even though I live in Southern California and could go both days without too much problem (except for my dislike of crowds).

Upside: horse racing... you get to bet on it....

Downside: the crowds... but that means the payouts are bigger... (more upside)

Upside: Not working on Saturday and the wife and kids will be gone for the day

Downside: Herkimer OTB is closing for good on Oct. 26th
