I agree, winning the Florida Derby, Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and the Haskell wasnt enough. The Monmouth Stakes is the true test of champions.

Thats not what I meant. Shakis and Proudinsky are going to the the two best horses he's run against after this race. It will able us to measure him up better.

I think his accomplishments are amazing.. thats why I'm picking him to win eventhough I wouldnt back that up with a dime.

Oh- and yes it is a new race, Monmouth created it specifically for Big Brown. I've seen Shakis run twice at Toga... he looked amazing both times! This should be a good race. I feel BB could be better on the grass than off (kinda like dutrow).

What are the odds that this race will actually be run on the TURF? If it is OTT who will stay in other than BB?

I like Silver Tree to win it.

What are the odds Big Brown will be scratched because it is unlikely he can handle horses of this caliber. if they thought they were going to get a field full of goats to roll over for him they are mistaken. Finally, he has a field of legitimate stakes caliber opponents. Reality is going to be brutal.

I'm curious about the weights. The condition book says "older 124 lbs, 3yo's 120 lbs." Is the old scale of weights that the Jockey Club used to have still in use? I know that when they run the BC, in the Classic and Turf, 3yo's get a five pound allowance from older horses when the BC is run in October and four pounds when it's in November. They are only getting four pounds here?

Nevermind. Just found the scale and it says at 8f, 3yo's get four pounds in September and at 10f, they get five. So it seems that four is just about right.

I'm just curious, why do you make reference to the "Pig" remark with this horse? He has won 6 of 7 races that he entered? Clearly he has a more impressive resume than 99.9% of his competitors over the past several years. So what does that make those horses in your eyes? Pretty harsh and unfair I'd say.

Very well put.

Probably last five years is the majority of my knowledge. But I have done some research of horses in the past. I am fascinated by Alydar (even though Affirmed beat him all those times).

Touting Big Brown as a superstar is a stretch but he has had a great year. I never put him in the same mix as some of the greatest horses. I just feel like many don't give this horse the credit he is deserving of based on his record.

I don't like Shakis here, he seems to do his best running at the Spa.

Shakis is training very, very well and could pull this one out with Jersey Joe Bravo on Board. However he has not shown up on occasion for no clear reason and if the turf is soft, he tends not to like that. I do think Big Brown will be beaten here and am looking forward to handicapping this more carefully as it will be a great betting race.
No knock on BB but he has not shown the aggressiveness and turn of foot in the stretch he did up to the Preakness. He can be very rank and Monmouth's turf course has very tight turns. Plus he is going against older horses for the first time. There are just too many issues to confront here. I continue to be very puzzled with their choice of this spot as a BC Classic prep for him. He has got his hooves full and then some.
