Before you make the claim, ask yourself this question - "What is your out move?"
If you think you can get out of the horse, or most of the way out, by dropping and winning if it is a bad claim, take a shot. If you are claiming at the bottom and you've got no where to go except to eat your capital and take a complete bath if you claim a turd, don't drop the slip. I always have an out figured before I claim a horse, assuming the horse will make it back to the track for another race. BTW, keep in mind that claiming ain't handicapping - they are two different worlds. |

I absolutely agree about the numbers in general, and how they are earned, especially when you're dealing with the Aqueduct inner. However, that being said, Tuffend earned his under optimal circumstances and I would say there is a very good chance he ran his best race off the layoff.
I liked him that day, and while I got rewarded due to the DQ, overall I thought his performance was dreadful. |
