Was mainly looking to understand the arrangement between NY OTB and Track. OTB is what is it and arguing about it certainly seems to be pointless right now. Just trying to get a sense for hoe much more an on-track dollar benefits the track as opposed to a off-track dollar.

NY OTB pays a pretty hefty share to NYRA but I don't know the exact numbers.

in the end, does it really matter? if you didn't like the looks of the pie chart, would you quit betting?

No, but if I have the option to place the bet on-line through NYRA rewards or Twinspires it makes a difference. If I'm correct in my interpretation if I bet through NYRA rewards all the money goes to NYRA. If I bet on Twinspires then a part of that money is going to CDI.

If you bet with Twin Spires most of your money is going to CDI.

thats true, most of the money goes to whom you bet it WITH, not ON. I think the general signal fee is around 3 percent, so if the takeout is 22 percent on a wager, then 3 percent is going to the track that was bet on, and 19 percent would be going to the place where the bet was taken, otb or adw. So roughly 6 to 1 goes to adw over the actual track with the racing product.

this is all just my observations from my time at the track, i'm not sure its all accurate, but i think it is LOL

Correct... however the "part" should be clarified as the LIONS SHARE (i.e., 16% to CDI versus 4% to NYRA if you bet on Aqueduct today @ a 20% takeout.)

I really don't feel like getting into a further discussion of how OTB is inefficient and takes way too much money out of racing and why the nature of their charter runs contra to the best interests of racing.

It's amazing how politics puts their proverbial foot up the ass of just about everything in this country. The hands in the cookie jar when OTB was conceived have created lasting problems- would NYRA have had the financial issues they've had over the years if NYS OTB handle went directly into their coffers? The purse structures would look VASTLY different, as well. While I don't have the exact statewide OTB numbers handy I'd wager a guess that purses would be close to a half million dollars higher a day for NYRA racing (not to mention Finger Lakes.)

gotcha--both you and pmac. certainly if i had the means to bet here in no gambler's land, i would shop for the best place to wager.
