OK, I'll weigh in and then leave the thread alone...I know folks don't want another sociological expose from me but...name the female trainers who are consider among the training elite? That's the truth of things, it's much harder for a woman to get started as a trainer and much harder for her to be successful...do you really think there is some reason why men are better trainers? When I worked on the backstretch, I met numerous female trainers...they were every bit the horsefolks that the guys were....but they didn't get the horses! Karen Hackney at Penn National has a good year if she wins 5 races out of 200 yet she knows her stuff...the glass ceiling is still there! Give this woman a few years and we'll see if (a) she gets horses that she doesn't own and (b) what she does with them. She's got the background, learned from the best...way to early too throw her under the bus.

oh come on somer, she gets a hard time because she's a woman?! i think that's a bunch of bull...case in point, helen pitts, who gets nothing but praise on this board and elsewhere. but then, her horses do well! kristin mulhall gets some from both sides, but again, her horses perform. jenine sahadi is another who has worked hard, and has reaped rewards.

i still see unfair treatment--i experience it. but a person who does a poor job, and gets called out for it, shouldn't suddenly scream sexism just to see if it fits. it doesn't fit here.

I didn't say that...don't put words in my mouth! I said that women trainers have a more difficult time succeeding than men....that's hard to argue looking at leading trainers etc. As far as the board giving her a hard time...remarks about her hair, her smoking, her speech and other physical aspects of her person speak for themselves.

i think she has a hard time getting good horses because of her stats, not because she's a woman.

Like I said, I met a few female trainers and they all knew their stuff...Amy Albright, Karen Kuhns, Karen Hackney...yet when I talked to owners, all I heard was "they are women". I don't know that many trainers, male or female, that have high winning %'s right out of the gate. If you think women and men are treated equally on the backstretch well...maybe I should visit the tracks where you've been on the backstretch cause it wasn't the case where I was.

It is extremely tough for women in this game ( and many businesses ) but it doesn't seem like Jamie Sanders gets criticized here because of her gender.

Personally I wish her well.
