I was at the Breeders' Cup that year, and I recall that speed horses were faring poorly. Up comes the BC Sprint, and people around me expected the speed to collapse. Speed is very good in 6F Belmont races, and the speed types ran 1-2-3. Swept Overboard ran a terrific race that day, along with the dueling pacesetters.
Left Bank won the Whitney the following year and finished fifth in the 2001 BC Sprint. The 2001 BC Sprint is probably special to Bobby Frankel, as it ended his 0-fer schneid.
