![]() Bailey's pomposity drips from every word he writes or utters on this, and most other, topics.. His failure to acknowledge the realities of Steve Wynn's intent in this endeavor is the critical mass in the depth of his eagnerness to shill for them..

![]() What's funny, these people come to him for his name. Fortunately, or unfortunately, he is a good businessman. He has no bills, and pays cash for everything, even his new house in Saratoga. So you, or we may not like his team, but he has been very successful, and continues loading the money truck.

Sure, a no asset, no name, unsuccessful company could not come in and be awarded the franchise. That is not really the issue. People may or may not like Jerry Bailey as a person, spokesman, business, or otherwise. He may or may not be qualified for said positions and roles. However, what is indisputable is that Jerry Bailey will go down as one of the greatest jockeys this sport has ever seen. However, that too has nothing to do with this issue. Personally, I don't see why being a great jockey equates to knowing the business side of the racing and racetrack industry, nor do I see how it equates to knowing what the backside issues and needs are. I don't think Bailey's experience as a jockey -- and being a great jockey -- connects with him being a great businessman. Obviously many people here feel the same way. BTW, just as an FYI, Jerry Bailey is one of the few big name, successful jockeys I do not personally know, he is not a friend or client, or anything of the like. I've never been a fan of his, and that doesn't mean I have any dislike for him. However, strictly as a jockey, I don't think anything really needs to be said. Eric |

![]() You got to the heart of it....Bailey was absolutely one of the greatest riders of all time. He was honestly a pleasure to watch ride. He was confident, he was prepared, and he was almost always in the right place. However, while he has every right to attempt to cash in on his name, that does not preclude the rest of us from seeing through his remarks. From what I have seen in this thread he doesn't seem to be fooling anybody.
I guess the biggest thing that bothers me is how in one minute he could say that it was going to be great to have the NY Yankees running racing and then when they dropped out he didn't skip a beat in endorsing a carpetbagging Casino mogul. At that point it is nearly impossible to defend that he believes in anything more than the allmighty dollar......and that is just the point about this entire bidding process that should scare everybody. Who are the bidders that really care about racing and who is merely being lured by slot dollars. Since none of them, save NYRA, had any interest whatsoever in 1997 when the franchise was up for renewal, or in any prior years, why should we suddenly believe they care about racing now? |

![]() Statements without substance by Mr. Bailey
In fact, the Johnstons have pioneered safe and effective track operation and management, along with improvements in living and working conditions for the hard-working men and women on the backstretch Someone want to check and see how many fire violations Balmoral Park, one of the Johnston's--"safe and effective track operations" have had in the past few years. Backstretch areas at both tracks, Balmoral and Maywood are runned down and in need of major repairs, from what I read on other forum boards, including horsemen who post on those boards. Excelsior is the right choice for New York racing, for New York taxpayers, and for local communities alike. JERRY BAILEY Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Nice of Mr. Bailey, a resident of Florida to know whats best for NY Racing and its taxpayers. Is that why Mr. Bailey resides in Florida a state who doesnt have a personal income tax. Go sell some DVD's in Century Village to the seniors. |
