since we are sharing...I heard second hand that if he is sound (ie they can't find anything at rood and riddle) then they will consider sending him in the Lexington...but only if he is 100%

Awww... till Saturday, at least!

Tell him I know how he feels. They retired my favorite older filly today and my Derby choice is managed by a bunch of guys playing monkey see, monkey do.

And I couldn't pick my way out of a paper bag on Saturday!

I don't know...if someone put that paper bag on the floor of Aqueduct I'm sure you would have found your way right out of there and running for a shower!

What is it with you and the Porter horses?

What can I say, he looks sexy in his red suit!

I hated Rockport Harbor, though...

Seconded. I was thinking we'd see "Giacomo like" odds on him in the Derby...

Jim, at this point who do you like at a price? Now it seems like 5 favorites and the rest will be close to the money or so far away from a shot at it they can't be bet...

I know ya didn't ask me....but.....

I think that Notional is going to be a good price vis a vis his actual chances in the race. Obviously, there are a few big ones who will take the lion's share of the money -- rightfully so. But the number on Notional keeps going up and I think that his style and his versatility will fit the shape of the race perfectly. Not taking a stand yet and saying he's your winner, but wouldn't you assume that he's going to be 20-1+ given his last run?

Great pick - a little hard to say with a couple other preps to go...I'm leaning more towards Stormello in the same range, but really thought Ketchikan would have seen 40 or 50-1....The door now seems closed on that type of number

at least against anyone that would have a shot...

I was interested too in Stormello earlier on the trail, and while his Fountain of Youth was gutsy, the Florida Derby really did him no favors. Though I guess Notional is on the same page. I think that Notional is live for the superfecta for sure and at a great price. What impresses me most about him is that he's obviously got the speed to contend with most who will enter, but the way he came out of the scrum in the Risen Star is a particular standout for me. That's the kind of toughness I want in a horse on Derby Day.

Agreed. Can't understand why they didn't leave the horse down here after the FoY...Seems like every year there is a trainer that likes to put more frequent flyer miles on his horse from Feb - May than I see all year...

I guess if Curlin or Cherlokee get in on earnings, there may be a case made to go long, but it appears to be shaping up to be mundane, unfortunately.

Funny how you see it that way, because for me at least -- this has been one of the most fascinating Derby trails in memory (though in my defense, I'm only acutely aware of about the last six or seven, as I was too young and not interested hardcore enough to follow them before that). I've mostly been fascinated with the way the BC Juvenile has acquitted itself as an actual key race for this year's Trail, when normally it has little bearing on the Road to the Roses. Your top four finishers in the BCJ are arguably going to be among the top five or six wagering choices in the Derby. Last time anything like that happened? Ever?

I've never had so much fun on the Trail than I am having this year.

too early to say. I've got to see how the final field shapes up, after all the preps are run. I'm still optimistic that there could be a big price, or at least that big prices can hit the board generating a huge tri.

Its weird though because normally at this point I've got it narrowed down to at most a handful. this year? ha!
