Eclipse - I have to echo what Ruffian said. We are only allowed to make 5 selections for each race in the points contest. Remember that you are only scored on how your first three selections perform. The extra two are a crude way of protecting contestants against the risk of late scratches or, if you need to post your picks before scratches are available, against up to two of your picks being scratched.
As to your first question, I think that you can get this information from the Equibase pp's (up at the top along with the other race conditions). Not absolutely sure of that however.
