Baffert said something very revealing when I asked him to discuss the 6 months of prep time for Coliseum. He said he turned to Talamo when developing the colt because he needed someone physically strong for control. And he was very careful to not malign Smith as part of the explanation. Smith may be fine for finished products, but may not be up to handling headstrong young horses.

Race 7-
The 5 is clearly the horse to beat and he might be more effective at shorter distances. The 1 is the wild card, but he likely wants longer. If you want to toss Gidu's last 3 races, his Saratoga race makes him a player. Can he get back to it and is it worth taking 7-2 to find out. I guess if the 9,11 both scratched Gidu would then be a big player. Race 8- Not sure yet. Dont really want either of the chalks though. |
