Steve Dellinger told me at the CD BC...'96 I think...that he had to introduce me to the most passionate horseman in town, Steve Byk. I had never heard of him but Steve was gracious and in future years very generous with his time and knowledge. That night he also introduced me to Chuck Simon...enough said

Great and overdue tribute

I can honestly say that if I had not accidentally come across ATR on the radio, I would have lost my desire to continue learning about this great sport. I googled "Byk" and found his website but not the Forum initially. Once I did, I felt a feeling of acceptance from the members even though my experience level was low. I do not have any acquaintances socially that follow horse racing and so my social interaction is internet based.
I remember when I first met Steve and Tina, he was doing the show live at the NHC....Tina came up to me when I motioned if I could meet Steve...both acted as if they had known me forever. Great people....
I give Steve all the credit for attracting me to this sport and gratitude for all this man does for this sport and his followers.
Great article....and I'm not trying to be a suck-up, just a lot of gratitude. Thanks Steve and Tina!

I've been around for about a decade. Since ESPN.

No one is more dedicated to making a career in thoroughbred journalism than Steve. Super nice guy to boot.

Congrats on everything that comes your way! Good things do come to good people who work hard!

This is classic.
Happy for you Steve! You deserve it!
I'm definitely glad I got to meet you through the ESPN Boards way back when. It helped me stay engage in this game.

I took this line as smack from their memorable interaction on the air when Haskin wouldn't take any Zenyatta criticism.

I agree with all the good words about Steve. I've met himat SAR and if you go up and say hello he is genuinely glad to see you and talk. His enthusiasm and optimism ffor the game is contagious and desperately needed in this time of naysayears and trolls. A good indicator of how well thought of Steve is in the business is that virtually everybody takes time to go on ATR and speak with him.

I really don't know how he does it. I get tired just listening to him tell what he's doing.

I love racing and everything around it. If you are like me, you've got to like Steve. Excellent article by Steve H.

ATR brought me back to racing after a long absence. Yes, there is a wealth of information about racing on the internets, but there is nothing like hearing from trainers and jockeys in their own words and voices, and getting tips from some of the best handicappers around. I was going to punt XM before I found ATR.

Nice write up by Haskin. No doubt an Eclipse is in the future.

JJ Gracy?...What ever happened to that guy? He completely fell off the radar. If I recall, he left because he got involved with some Brazilian turf club penny stock scheme to simulcast races here or something... He was fairly well known in the sport I thought, but literally haven't heard anything about him in years..

I was ridiculously happy that Haskin wrote that piece and figured it'd make Steve blush with all those well-deserved compliments in black and white for the world to see. I used to be on another forum that was becoming unpleasant (the newbies were borderline trolls, definitely idiotic if nothing else) and regulars were getting driven away. One of the old guard told me about DT and I originally came here just to be a part of this community, but when I realized Steve had ATR and I heard the quality of it, I realized I'd hit the jackpot. The ability I have to enjoy the sport for that many hours a day with the quality of analysis and interviews, well, it's just been invaluable to helping me feel connected to and informed about this sport. I honestly don't know how things would be were it not for ATR and everybody here.

JJ and Samm have a radio show in S. Fla...if I'm not mistaken.

Edit: Yeah they do...but it's not primarily about horse racing.
