:o

I don't know what to say. This was incredibly kind of Steve. I feel like Zenyatta.

It's a wonderful piece. I thought the line about ATR being just guys talking racing and the rest of the racing world eavesdropping was perfect. :) Mr. Byk you are a marvel, and as i said in the comment section, i am in awe of how you you manage your time. You are certainly long overdue for an Eclipse Award, that will happen i have no doubts. :)

Terrific piece! And very accurate!

I second the motion...

I tried to respond to Mr. Haskin's story in BH but my comments seem to have vanished in to some lonely cyber forum. I will post here instead because I know that you read your mail!!! My response to Mr. Haskin, for what it's worth, was something like this:

'Thank you for the much deserved recognition of the erudite Mr. Byk and his contributions to the sport of horse racing. I too marvel at his impeccable preparation, depth and breadth of knowledge, and participation in many facets of the sport. I am one of the many daily 'eavesdroppers' on ATR as well as a long time reader of your BH columns. The weekly conversation between the two of you is not to be missed. It would have to be you or Jay Hovdey who could begin to capture the great work that Steve Byk does as an ambassador for the sport and as a personality in his own right. Bravo!!!'

Too long to be a Tweet... Thanks for all the great work you do.

Great job Steve Haskin. If you're an avid listener of ATR, you already know that Steve's grasp of the sport is unmatched. My favorite story over the years is when Steve and Tina were heading to the Preakness. They stopped for an overnight at Chuck's place in New Jersey. Steve goes out to the car to get the luggage and realizes that he left Tina's bag back home in the kitchen. Priceless!!!

Very well deserved recognition.

What an honor to have a legend of the sport sing your praises.

Well deserved, Mr. Robot. :tro::tro:

Thanks all for the generous responses and ongoing support. Anything that's happened to me stems from DT and the great group of players and fans assembled here. Endlessly grateful to all of you.

Steve Dellinger told me at the CD BC...'96 I think...that he had to introduce me to the most passionate horseman in town, Steve Byk. I had never heard of him but Steve was gracious and in future years very generous with his time and knowledge. That night he also introduced me to Chuck Simon...enough said:tro:

Great and overdue tribute

I can honestly say that if I had not accidentally come across ATR on the radio, I would have lost my desire to continue learning about this great sport. I googled "Byk" and found his website but not the Forum initially. Once I did, I felt a feeling of acceptance from the members even though my experience level was low. I do not have any acquaintances socially that follow horse racing and so my social interaction is internet based.
I remember when I first met Steve and Tina, he was doing the show live at the NHC....Tina came up to me when I motioned if I could meet Steve...both acted as if they had known me forever. Great people....
I give Steve all the credit for attracting me to this sport and gratitude for all this man does for this sport and his followers.
Great article....and I'm not trying to be a suck-up, just a lot of gratitude. Thanks Steve and Tina!

I've been around for about a decade. Since ESPN.

No one is more dedicated to making a career in thoroughbred journalism than Steve. Super nice guy to boot.

Congrats on everything that comes your way! Good things do come to good people who work hard!
