And I dont mean to pick on Alabama but like Darren said they were lucky to benefit from the system AND I'm pretty sure that they are the best team in the country. In a playoff system they wouldnt be penalized for a kicker having a bad day (Boise too) and would have an opportunity to win the thing on the field and get the props that they deserve. Instead of talking about this crap we would be talking about the unbelievable defense. Take a cupcake off the schedule, play the other crappy bowls (the idea that a 4 or 8 team playoff would make the other bowls more meaningless than they already are is stupid), figure out a way to work around the NFL playoffs and rake in the money. |

![]() it's not that anyone thinks it's bad. it's the money. if the money was to equal to what's getting thrown at schools now, it would change in a heart beat. until that happens, playoff won't happen.
also there are still questions about how to figure out who gets in the playoffs. good teams could get left out and bad ones in if they go with conference winners. under that scenario, alabama wouldn't have made a playoff this year. otoh,go by rankings, you have conferences with no representation at all. right now bcs rules prohibit having multiple bcs bowls with teams from one conference. that's why arkansas didn't get a bcs bowl this year-two teams from the sec were already going. so-do they want the best teams, or go by division winners? either way, some teams will get left out, some will get in who 'don't deserve it'. so, still not exactly 'fair'. if you go by rankings, you still have people voting to help control their opponent, or their own ranking. saban voted okla state lower than anyone else place them, which helped his team remain in second by a razor-thin margin. ok st coach gundy didn't even have a vote. |

i also have to think that some conferences wouldn't want it to be the best teams go. currently you have conferences with guaranteed spots in the big bowls. they don't want that to go away-that makes that big money go away- from them. look at the last few years, and what teams have finished in the top ten. look at who hasn't been the last however many years. there's been a shift, and it's leaving traditional schools out in the cold. that's why they made that push for automatic bids, so that no big conference loses out on that money. i don't think they want that auto bid to go away. if it doesn't go away, the playoff system wouldn't be any better than what we have currently. i can see a plus one coming...that's about it. still think this year that it would have resulted in bama-lsu. boise st was griping about automatic bids. i bet that griping doesn't happen next year, when they win one of those auto bid conferences! |

![]() i heard on espn radio a VERY interesting inside to the BCS meetings the other day. 5-6yrs ago SEC President Slive presented the "plus 1" format which would pit #1 against #4 and #2 against #3. the big10 and pac10 were firmly against it at that time. well guess who's crying the blues? and now they think it's just the GREATEST idea! yup the big10-pac10 are now all in favor and pushing for the plus 1 system BUT it can't take affect until 2014.

![]() I think 4 teams is too few,I believe 8 teams is the right mix and would only require 3 games. Play 2nd 3rd week of Dec take a week off and then play the final.

![]() i'd like to see 16 teams like the other divisions play BUT after watching all the poorly played football in the other BCS games, 8 might be enough.

I especially like this quote "The notion of having a Final Four approach is probably a sound one," Emmert said when asked what he heard coming out of New Orleans this week. "Moving toward a 16-team playoff is highly problematic because I think that's too much to ask a young man's body to do. It's too many games, it intrudes into the school year and, of course, it would probably necessitate a complete end to the bowl system that so many people like now." Read more: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...#ixzz1jNQP288J So I guess the Div1-AA, Div 2 and Div 3 teams dont have "young man body" issues? Intrudes into the school year? lol!! Doesnt the ENTIRE REGUAR SEASON intrude into the school year? What does a 16 team playoff system have to do the Las Vegas Bowl or other bowl between 6-5 teams? Does he realize that many teams who dont make the NCAA basketball tournament play in the NIT? Isnt the Hawaii and New Orleans or Potato bowl already the football version of the NIT? Too many games? Cut a cupcake off of the regular season. Intrusion into the school year? Play the games in December/1st week of Jan when most schools are on break End of the bowl system? Stop lying to us. |
