I expect him to be no worse then the 3rd choice, no higher then 7-1, how can he be? He has done nothing wrong in his last 3 and keeps improving, and he is 100% a wise guy horse, especially with Esk, being a heavy favorite now.

I'm hoping Odysseus or Dublin can run a huge race next weekend to spread it around even more. 10-1 on SC would be nice.

Here is yet another article. After watching the replay, I think she and Gomez have a good point. That was pretty dirt on Espinoza's part.

Gomez was in trouble from the time the gates opened and he should of saved his horse from getting hurt, He was the trouble by expecting the rail to open for him. DUMB A S S. Victor should of pounded his bony a s s for being so stupid.

He was in trouble from the start? Didn't he get a horse from the 7 post to the rail? Wasn't he sitting an absolutely perfect trip on the verge of getting a dream run through before Espinoza just decided to close the hole?

Realistically, everyone needs to take a step back on this whole thing. The hysteria is absolutely out of control with this "he was in trouble the whole time" nonsense. The guy saved as much ground as he possibly could and ran into trouble at the worst possible time.

I mean would it have been better for him to give Lookin at Lucky the ride Solis gave Alphie's Bet?

when a jock hugs the rail and wins, he got a dream trip. when a jock attempts to hug the rail and gets cut off, it's a dumb ride...
i think the issue is more of jocks trying to keep other horses from winning, rather than worrying about the horse they're on. maybe espinoza has seen baileys dvd-at least of the smarty jones belmont?

Dont get me wrong. It was a dumb ride and he created his own unnecessary drama. It just looked to me like the 3 was done and if that was the case, Victor needed to get out of the way in my opinion.

This is all the result of the infatuation with the INSIDE check by all the PSEUDO trip handicappers. LaL is just not much horse and had no shot of beating SC, who went to his nose at the break, btw, which no one seems to have mentioned. Of course, as there was nothing in the race, the plug certainly should've been 2nd. I can't believe that some people actually want that (typically) opportunistic plug back in the Derby.

As for Gomez: he's ****ed up more races over the past year than just about any (major) jock not named Russell Baze or Patrick Husbands or Victor Espinoza.

Default Gomez History

Always has seemed to be a high risk/reward type of jockey. I have seen some amazing rides that i believe no one else could have pulled off and i have seen just as many or more high risk rides on horses that should have won like yesterday...... and he gets blocked or he is just way to out of it on closers and runs out of ground

Trouble? It was a perfect trip gone bad. Andy talks about it all the time, how up to the trouble the trip was PERFECT. This is an example, he tripped out untill Vic went crazy.

Regardless of whether saving ground inside was a tactical decision on his part or a complete f -up on his part, will never be known - what seems clear is that he completely disregarded Baffert's instructions (From the LA Daily News):

>>>Replays were inconclusive as to whom was at fault, but Lookin At Lucky's trainer, Bob Baffert, was upset at Gomez and said he gave his colt a "horrendous" ride. The stewards posted the inquiry sign moments after the race and made no change when they ruled the runners involved finished behind Lookin At Lucky.

"I told him to keep (Lookin At Lucky) close, that they were going to go slow, (but) he took him back and he was fighting him, and it was horrendous," Baffert said. "You can't be on the inside on this track. The ride was horrendous.
<<<

And will probably cost him the mount:

>>>Baffert, asked if Gomez would keep the mount on Lookin At Lucky for the Kentucky Derby, was noncommittal.
"I'm not going to talk about that right now," Baffert said. "But I just can't believe he rode him like that. When I saw him on the rail I thought, `What is he doing?' He must not have seen (retired Hall of Fame jockey) Jerry Bailey's tape. I'm going to buy him his DVD."

I don't think Lookin at Lucky would have caught Sidney's Candy had he been clear anyway. As a result of the check, he'll be bet down more in the Derby than had he run clear and finished second.

you're right almost, LAL is in tight between horses right after the start and gets squeezed as he lays off the pace to save ground in the first turn and that puts LAL in a position where he never see a path to the outside of the pack and is stuck on the rail to wait for room. It never opened up and even if Gomez had much the best horse he was going to lose, so I beleive he rode a race that he had a greater chance to lose the race than win.

Where was he going to go? He had two horses to his outside at that point, so it wasn't like he could ease up a bit and let him drift outside.

Victor gets 3 days for the Santa Anita Derby ride and Gomez is fined 750 for his actions after the race,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Just doesnt seem right from what I saw, but then again maybe the stewards had Looking at Lucky to win.

Yeah, I really don't get that one. I'm not sure what they expected Victor to do.
