![]() Breeders' Cup brass toured the premises with an eye to returning to Canada – a notion if not unthinkable in the wake of Woodbine's only previous turn, in 1996, then certainly a long shot.
Not anymore, Breeders' Cup president and CEO Greg Avioli's honeyed words flowing like a well-timed Garrett Gomez rally. Avioli praised just about everything about Woodbine. This Winter, he will present the Breeders' Cup board with a plan for approval that would designate a group of 10 North American tracks, including Woodbine, as hosts beginning in 2011, along with the framework of a rotation. "I would definitely believe you'll see that day, and probably sooner than you might think," said Avioli of a Breeders' Cup return. "The biggest concern you have at Woodbine is going to be the temperature. We're locked into the early November schedule, it fits with our plan very well. "In terms of the overall quality of the facility, though, there's no reason you wouldn't see multiple Breeders' Cups here in the future." http://www.thestar.com/sports/horser...-cup-challenge |
