If your intentions really aren't to sell a horse ... trying the filly on the turf at this time was not a bad idea.
Her sire's offspring have been only 2-for-50 first time on the turf - but she had a little turf breeding. He basically missed out on a speed biased track in the Victory Ride - a 100K race where she'd have been lucky to finish 2nd - and instead he got a non-effort from her on a surface she clearly couldn't handle. It's not like he missed out on much.
