Why does this ref-ing nonsense always happen to us? Italy 2006, that crap today. How that guy was left with a whistle in his hand for a World Cup game is beyond me. He'd only been the official for a single major competition once in his entire career!

Does anybody really know what the call was on the Edu "goal?" It couldn't have been offsides, and if it was on Bradley himself, it is quite clearly one of the worst calls in the history of sports.

Wynalda says the ref was bribed and asks for an investigation. He's a nut, but he's got a couple points. How many USA free kick opportunities were almost immediately whistled down?

Doesn't the linesman call the offsides?

That's the thing, it wasn't called offsides after all. In fact, per Donovan, nobody knows what the call was. Grant Wahl at SI says it was Edu, but that can't be the case since Edu literally didn't touch a soul in route to scoring the goal.

There's a replay on yahoo.com's front page that shows the play from seventeen different angles, and the linesman's flag never goes up, so the linesman had nothing to do with the play. The angle from behind the play that shows the ref shows he's blowing his whistle before Edu even touches the ball. I think FIFA should definitely be opening an invesigation of this - this is way more egregious than the Ireland-France Henry handball incident.

From The Sun:

"Substitute Maurice Edu bundled the ball home from a free-kick — but referee Koman Coulibaly ruled the goal out for pushing when it seemed Slovenian defenders were the only players doing the shoving."

no it isnt

while i agree that it was a ridiculous decision, there are tons of players pushing and shoving each other on every set piece and the ref just has to see one to blow up.. as coach said, win and youre through -that shouldnt be hard

espn played the USA game on the radio. that had to be the worst radio i've ever heard. soccer sucks enough but that constant buzzing in the background even made the pregame unlistenable.

Default best soccer dives

weird list. contains an amateur game and inexplicably a basketball game but i thought #1 and #3 were worthy enough.

The dive by the Ivory Coastan(?) to get Kaka his second yellow belongs on that list. Kaka never touched the guy's face and he went down like he just caught a Mike Tyson hook to the nose.

Disgraceful.

yes it was an utter disgrace - the referee had a howler tonight - missed 2 clear handballs by luis fabiano for the 2nd goal missed two horrific tackles by the Ivory Coast players which deserved red cards and then sends Kaka off for nothing..

Divers are Wankers!!
