The difficulty of the races that fill at Saratoga are not worth the extra few thousand. Trainers realize they are much better off going to Delaware of Monmouth.
Training racehorses has become a game of percentages. You don't get good win and in the money percentages running in tough fields. You go where the softer fields are. Saratoga is slowly becoming stakes races with some NY bred races as filler.
