I think there is a huge misperception out there about vegetarians, and about what they eat, and about their bathroom habits, etc. They eat a lot more than lettuce. They eat fruits, vegetables, grains, tofu, nuts, legumes, etc.

I feel very healthy when I'm eating vegan and my bathroom habits are no different from when I used to eat nothing but meat. I'm not a total vegan, but I often go 2-3 days at a time eating strictly vegan. I'll eat fish once or twice a week. I may have chicken a couple of times a month and I may have a piece of red meat once a month.

I think it's much healthier to keep your meat intake to a minimum. There are so many things to eat out there that don't come from an animal. I love the fresh peanut-butter at Whole Foods Market. I have peanut-butter sandwiches all the time. I eat a lot of guacamole. I eat been burritos. I like some veggie-burgers. If I go to Subway, I'll get an avocado, lettuce and tomato sandwich.

They have some great vegan restaurants here is Los Angeles. I'm surprised how quickly I took a liking to the food at these restaurants. The first time I ever went to a vegan restaurant about 10 years ago, I had no idea what to expect. It was all new to me because I grew up like most kids, eating hot-dogs, hamburgers, corned-beef sandwiches, etc. But even the first time I went to one of these restaurants, I really enjoyed the food. It really opened my eyes to a totally different way of eating. When I was younger, I thought that the centerpiece of every meal was some type of meat. For lunch I would have either a hamburger, a turkey burger, a tuna sandwich, a turkey sandwich or something like that. For dinner, I would have chicken, fish, or red meat. Now I realize that there are other satisfying options.

I actually feel much better when I have a vegan meal. I feel satisfied but I don't get that full, uncomfortable feeling that I often get when I eat meat.
