How many top class horses have run at Tampa Bay Downs? It isn't like he broke a record set by Secretariat.

well how much faster do you expect him to finish in? What did he run the final quarter in at TB? 24.3 or so? He ran the final 1/8 in 6.3 so he was tiring a little. Do you expect him to run a 24 on that surface?

WHat did he run at the BC a 24.0 or something? Obviously the inner path had some effect, how much?

so what do you expect him to close w/ next saturday? 23.6? 23.0??

Not at ten furlongs. I think he can close as fast at ten furlongs though as he did at 8.5 which is saying a lot. Of course that totally depends on what sort of trip he gets which is a big if in a 20 horse field.

perhaps a better question might be do you think he can carry that closing speed the entire stretch run? I have my doubts.

It's also interesting that the betting info we have at the moment suggests he is about 6-1 which seems somewhat lukewarm for the public's second choice. Are there enough doubts in the public eye that they see something real that would hinder him. But I dunno, is 6-1 really luke warm. SNS was what 5-1 and Barbaro 7-1? Maybe it's reasonable odds for SS..

It's a wide open Derby, and everyone knows it. If Curlin hadn't aired in the Arkansas Derby and Street Sense hadn't run a 93 in the Blue Grass, Street Sense would be around 4/1 if not lower.
