Eh, Schumer's only been there since 1998 (I remember him thrashing D'Amato, and rethought dirty politics, because I swear, the only reason he beat him is that he was willing to get right in the gutter with Big Al.). That's nothing for the Senate. McConnell's been in since 1984, which is only slightly longer than Scalia served on the Supreme Court. And neither of them make the top 20, historically.

I think Patrick Leahy is the longest serving who is still there.

There's pros and cons to long-serving members of Congress. The thing is, we do have term limits. It's just that they're called elections and it's hard to get people to show up if the big job isn't also on the line.
