There's a lot of corrupt bullsh!t that happens in every governmental agency but when Liebman got replaced for one of Pataki's donors that just about took the cake for worst trade ever. I was embarassed to be a New Yorker that day.

That's always a problem when you have politics involved. And no matter how good or bad the people on the board were or are, it just doesn't matter.

Unfortunately, politicos in New York use racing as their "Pat Webb" (the guy in Casino whose uncle was a Nevada Senator... "he's about as useless as tits on a bull") whereas they have 6 OTB's to stick friends and family that aren't good enough to do anything else in public office. Dumbest business model in the world.

For what it's worth, and I'm sure he didn't listen to a word I said, I called Pataki on this. He was standing by himself inside the clubhouse at Saratoga one day the summer after this happened and I told him that I thought Ben's replacement was extremely unfortunate and that if it was ever correctable ( which I knew was ridiculous ) he should consider it.

At least now I know what gum feels like when you scrape it off your shoe.

I can't think of a George in politics that I would call now that McGovern is dead.

However, I wish they would stop calling me.
