Default "Timed Squared" anyone see this....

Just curious to think what you all on here think about this horse. Watched the race think it was the 5th at SA yesterday and the 1st race for colt was over mile isnt that kind of unusual? Things that stuck out too me and please correct me if what i say is wrong as i am a newbie to all of this.
1)I know some on here dont like the frenchmen but i think hes a pretty good trainer and feel its a matter of time before he gets a Ky derby
2)first race for a colt isnt it unusual to put one in a race that long?
3)Pace didn't seem super hot and frontrunner keeps going and going and all of the sudden i see this black blur come flying down the center of the track. Does the fact that the horse ran and came on like that at the end of what i "think" was a slow race mean anything?
4)I think his breeding is pretty good fupeg on top and i think a decent horse on the bottom correct if wrong.
5) HE IS FRIGGING BEAUTIFUL Looked like jet black but didnt notice if that is the actual color but a really good looking horse.

Please discuss and point out what im wrong on or tell me what im right on. thanks

Default Pretty Much Right On

Would assume with the breeding that he would want to go two turns...
$1 million purchase price for NY Bred - given that and the connections not that unusual to wait until now to get first start
His workouts were so so... Nothing great....
THe race as you described it was visually very impressive....Not sure if he got beat by anything special but there has been a speed bias to the dirt track at Santa Anita which is the norm
Obviously he will most likely be odds on next start...
Too early to make any Derby opinions on him but he seems to have a nice future, but then again for $1 million he has a ways to go to get back to even.

Time Squared and that SA 5th was talked about a bit the other day in the course of the Selection thread.. This was a very intriguing MSW with a number of potentially important three year olds. Time Squared is out of the Broman's AP Indy mare Indy Glory, herself out of the Cox's Ridge mare Immerse. Indy Glory is a full sister to Stephen Got Even and the NYB juvy stakes winner Grand Merger (Maid of the Mist).

Biancone had told Ric Hammerle, the Director of Racing at SA, that he was entering Time Squared Saturday strictly to get the requisite Derby Voodoo "two year old start" into the colt. He expected nothing special from him, but has high hopes for this year with the son of FuPeg.

The race wasn't necessarily "slow", as there was very little speed signed on, and while comparing this group to claimers that ran earlier on the card won't tell you much, they went a lot quicker than the older maiden taggers that opened the day. More important was the way in which Time Squared cut out his fractions in the race...

:24.3 (:24.3).. :24.4 (:49.2).. :24.2 (1:13.4).. :30.2 (1:44.1)..

THAT is what was impressive. For a horse to run :24 quarters so evenly in his debut, is a GREAT sign for down the road, and particularly for Derby success. There are few Rose Run indicators more positive than the ability to run like that while closing well. And 30.2 for the last 2.5f is ultra sharp in a route debut. Five quarter miles at a :24.2 clip gives you 10f in 2:02.0, and that wins a lot of Derbies.

When the Big Froggie turns the screws on this colt, things will get interesting, and I applaud the fact that he didn't push this April foal before he was ready. While no one would question Biancone's overall ability as a trainer, he does have a history of demolishing youngsters.

I see "Giacopelli" listed as part of the ownership with Fab Oak, Biancone's childhood pal Fabien Ouaki (Whywhywhy) and top NY breeder Lew Lakin. If it's Paul Giacopelli, who has several horses with Sciacca, I know him pretty well. Will find out if it is and what's up next for this $1,050,000 NY bred...

One should note, the winner of Time Squared's race, Level Red (Aptitude), ran second to Ravel (FuPeg). It could be a good year for Fupeg, lets just hope these two colts turn out better than the over-rated Bandini.

Ravel broke his maiden in his second start by 3 1/2 lenghts (his first start he went very wide at Keeneland and was moving well for second). Both Ravel & Time Squared seem professional and less quirky than other Fupegs.
