I just read where his fee is being dropped to $30,000.00. I thought he did pretty well this year. Apparently, they had a hard time filling his book????

He did just fine, hes currently the 2nd leading sire of his class.
It became apparent that he wasnt gonna sire sales busting two year olds in training or 5f rocketships in June.
They adjusted the fee to where they feel it will get him the best mares. They already got the three years of full price, plus one extra year. They are out on him for all purposes. Its gravy time now.

30k is a good price for him. In fact, I would venture to say it should probably be 25k... His sales results are subpar and many of his yearlings arent put together real well due to their size... but he's getting some decent runners. He'll find a good niche in KY.

They got very few "full price" fees for PG. One of the reason you see so many sell so poorly is they did so many foal shares where they were contractually obligated to sell. Also he gets really coarse looking horses that are hard to like.

Quiet frankly he will get a better book of mares at 30(which i suspect there is some leeway on if you have a good mare) then he would at 100.
Thats the point. Folks who are looking to toss 100 grand at a sire look in most cases for a sire with commercial or sales bang. Which often means 1st or 2nd year sires who don't have a record with runners yet but who have a lotta hype.
People breeding at the 25K range will swing the bat on one who doesnt sire flashy speedballs but who may get you a home run horse.
PG's sire got a bad rap for a while. Thunder Gulch was considered a failure, until folks realized that me may get you a home run who can stretch out and go farther than 5f.
Point Given is 2nd only to Aptitude in 2nd crop sires.

As the proud owner of a winning Aptitude filly, I hope he turns out to be an even better broodmare sire than expected. He has the blood for it and I love that he adds distance to a foal. I was looking for a filly who wanted a route of ground out of a speed oriented mare, and she fit the bill perfectly, in large part due to him. And much like the Point Given's i've seen... she is big and lanky, almost immature looking as a 3 year old. Great lines though with some good bone. Very fine head.

typical for sires to see a decrease in fees after the first few years. a lot of people like to go to the newbies on the block, so those who are in their 'bubble' years typically see their $ go down.
point given is doing pretty well, and 30k is nothing to sneeze at.

Point Given was another excellent race horse who will probably only make a moderate sire.

Anyone remember his Dam when she was a race horse? She was a run-off speedball, whom I believe Carla Gaines trained. As I remember her, she barely lasted once going a mile on the turf---and all her other wins came while contesting the early pace in short sprint races.

She won some rinky dink early season 2yo stake in No Cal. at like 5.5 furlongs.

Her style was totally opposite of PG's.
