![]() NBC coverage for the Derby this year going to show 9 races and supposed to be a bit more than 7 hours starting at Noon. I usually don't watch much of the NBC coverage except for the Derby itself, but I might this year.

![]() Sounds like they will be giving coverage to races that they normally don't which will be a good thing, I think. I too am not all that interested in the "chit chat" and often mute my tv or computer when I've had enough or am trying to concentrate on my betting, but I do like watching on my wide screen tv as opposed to my computer even though I do have a new computer with a wider monitor.

![]() 7 1/2 hours is a lot of air time to cover 9 races. The time between races tends to get increasingly longer as the afternoon progresses.
In the past they have shown the live undercard races, and have had some discussion of the field before the race and interviews of the winning connections after the race, the focus has always been on the Derby. Even though an undercard race may be important in its own right, the question usually asked of the winning jockey will be "how do you like your chances on your Derby horse." Many of the featured segments get repeated a few hours later, great if you tune in late but tedious if you have been watching all afternoon. Some of the handicapping discussion has been intentionally dumbed down and the suggested wagers by their "experts" might drive you up the wall. So, as both of you have mentioned, liberal use of the mute button is advised. I've found that having my computer set up to the track feed and my ADW account fully funded makes the afternoon pass pleasantly. Having adequate food and beverage close at hand isn't a bad idea either. By the way, coverage on Oaks Day will run from 1 to 6 on USA and NBC Sports. That coverage also usually includes a lot of Derby discussion if you are still deliberating over your Derby picks. |

I probably won't be still deliberating over my picks, but likely will be trying to figure out which bets to use to take advantage of those picks. That seems to be my nemesis along with which other races to bet. At any rate, I'm already pumped for the Derby. Bring it on. |

![]() Anyone been there?
1974 for me. It was from more of the Hunter S.Thompson perspective. I did bet Agitate. Of course he ran 3rd. Made it back to da Burgh in a VW bug running on empty with 10 cents amongst us. As for NBC, it's background noise at best. The paddock and post parade is enough. |
