Default Venue for August 8th

I guess it will be Saratoga once again since they are running the Travers. Entries are not up yet so the number of races is up for discussion. Suggestions are welcome once the card is released. Due to a storm yesterday I am without power at my home. Projected fix is August 10th. Oh Boy. Hope you other Jerseyites and JB and Plen fared better. 2020 keeps getting better and better.

Hope you've got a generator. Here in Hot Springs, we used to have a power outage every winter about the time of Oaklawn's opening day. Finally broke down and bought a generator. Haven't had one of those ice storms, that caused the power outage, since and good thing because I couldn't get my generator to start for the last couple of years. Couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. Kept thinking it was a fuel problem. Very frustrating. Thought about donating it to Good Will, but my tax man said, it wouldn't really help all that much with my taxes. Got to hoping somebody would steal it, so I could make an insurance claim, but just when you need your neighbors to be criminal, they won't cooperate. Anyway, kept messing with it and finally it started right up. Apparently, it was a loose spark plug wire. I am a seriously mechanically challenged person.

It's always strange when Joly doesn't weigh in on a topic. For those that don't know JB has only missed two contests in ten + years. Once for a hurricane and once for a blizzard if memory serves me right. On a Breeders Cup weekend no less. With that being said the venue on Saturday will be Saratoga. Since races 1 and 12 are for maidens let's just do 2 through 11. Let us hope Travers day is kinder to our wallets.

i find it a bit sad to see Stakes entries at Saratoga on Travers day
***** 7--7--7--6--8 *****

You would think there should be more challengers on such a big day

I just talked to Joly, his phone service is OK but he is out of power after the storm. He said initially 700K homes lost power and now down to a mere 500K still out of which he is one. He and his wife are AOK, no water as well since they have a well that runs on an electric pump. He'll back as soon as the power switch is turned on in his area.

Is the series of numbers some kind of code you want us to figure out? Likely has some meaning I hope.

Obviously the reference is how many starters in the stakes races

Entries in R7–8–9–10–11 = 7-7-7-6-8

I wish I could offer a more magical mystery explanation

Not sure what the weather is like up there in the Northeast, but very pleasant here for August. Usually blazing hot in Arkansas in August and on into September, but Fall like here now. Generally this time of year my lawn crunches when you walk across it, but not this year. Course, it could revert to it's old bad self at any time. Never a good time to lose power especially for all us internet addicts, but I'd rather it happened now with this type of weather than in the middle of winter or in the hottest part of summer, but not trying to be tone deaf, I do feel for all you guys that lost power.

Yes Cal, we've enjoyed high 80's and low 90's temps here in north Texas which is very nice but unusual for this time of year. It'll get back to the high 90's soon. Only two 100's + so far this summer which is good for us. It won't get really nice until late Sep early October.

Hello my friends. Sorry to have missed yesterday's contests. Our power went out mid afternoon on Tuesday and was not restored until Saturday night. We were relatively fortunate - some folks in the state aren't likely to get full restoration until midnight Tuesday. Guess that ruins my chances for the Real Quiet perfect attendance award.

It was only classified as a tropical storm, but there must have been a few micro bursts mixed in - all over the state, many trees were knocked down, electric lines all over the ground and telephone poles snapped off. We've been through much stronger hurricanes with much less damage. At least it was midsummer, so no one had to worry about keeping warm, and with the long summer days there wasn't the feeling of sitting in the dark for so long that you get with a winter power outage. It was inconvenient, not dangerous. My first cup of coffee this morning was pure bliss.

As a silver lining our DVR somehow recorded the Travers race card even though the power was off and we couldn't access cable or internet - so I'll be able to see what I missed yesterday.
