NFL - mid term report card

SURPRISES - SAINTS, RAVENS, CHIEFS

DISAPPOINTMENTS - STEELERS, BENGALS, EAGLES

OVERRATED - COWBOYS, FALCONS, CARDINALS

ONE'S TO WATCH THE 2nd HALF - CHARGERS, PANTHERS

It's looking more like the Colts will be the one to beat in the AFC.
They already beat the Pats at home and Broncos, the real threats may be the Ravens and Chargers.

The Bears / Giants match will give us the leader in the NFC.
Don't count out the Eagles or Panthers with a late season surge.
Love the Saints, but thier young and the defending NFC champions SEAHAWKS have too many injuries to overcome.

The team that gets "hot" late will make it to the "big game".
The three teams from each league in my opinion are:
COLTS / PATRIOTS / CHARGERS
BEARS / PANTHERS / GIANTS

Let me be the first to go ahead and give the Steelers a grade of an "F" !!!!

I'm so very tired of being mediocre at football selections. Which is the reason I don't bet on sports.
Every year I join a bar pool in which you have to pick every game every week vs. the spread, every year I go .500 or a game or two off.
Vowed that this year it would be different. So hows it going? Well they've played 128 games so far and I have 64 wins and 64 losses. I give up, I'm forever doomed to mediocrity in football handicapping.

The Chiefs and the Ravens are not surprising.

The Cardinals, even with a lousy offensive line are still a disappointment. The Lions also.

I find the Chargers quite surprising. The Rams are surprising.

The Vikings are overrated. The Falcolns just fine.

The Seahawks, even with injury - overrated!

Everything else is pretty good.

You know Mike, picking with the lines is TOUGH, your .500 record really isn't that bad. I'm in a weekly "straight up" pool without lines and I'm tied for 1st with 82 winners after 9 weeks. The NFL has been a "crap shoot" the past five years. I pay attention to the weekly trends and the last four weeks have been tough. This year injuries have hampered a lot of good teams. Just found out the Amaini Toomer is done for the year with the G-men. Had him on my fantasy team and got rid of him yesterday, just in time. If I had your knowledge on the ponies and you had mine on football, WE BE RICH!

.....thats not bad oracle...... when you play the entire schedule its bound to happen. if you stuck to a few every week you might be surprised.

I think what he is saying is 50% correct is exactly what one might expect throwing darts. Saying it is not bad really does not mean much. Try this. Use the line to pick the winners in all these games and then go completely opposite. Oracle comes out 50%... Cmon guys, 50% over the entire season is just about what random says. And with that 10% gone, Vegas wins, as usual. Pro football is incredibly tough. Now the Pillow man is pretty incredible. He has managed to get below 50% fairly regularly. So use his picks and go opposite. College is much easier.

Patrick thats pretty much why being so consistently mediocre is a drag, you can't turn your picks around and do any better.
Its worth the 120 bucks a year though to participate in it. We pay 10 bucks a week for the first 12 weeks of the 17 weeks. 95 guys or gals in it this year. Weekly prizes of 100 bucks for most winners and 13 bucks for low. Year end prizes for top ten, lowest guy, longest straight, most common numbers, etc.
Also get two parties at the place with open bar and free food for 3 hours, one of them on Super Bowl Day.
The way I see it for 120 bucks you get to root for and follow every football game played from seasons beginning to end, and two pretty nice parties. Even though I never get back a quarter of the 120 I spend, its worth it.

Most the people I know have the same luck with the ponies, they don't spend a lot - so what they win gets them even. I've always said; it's not hard to pick winners & the other horses you use - punching the right winning ticket with those you chose is!
