![]() The one Paragallo rescue to make it to the track will be featured on ESPN tonight at 7PM as part of their E:60 program. It should make for an uplifting story. Though her racing career was quite short, she ended up in a good home and will be working towards her second career.
I wonder how the NYTimes would spin the story- "Retired Racehorse Forced Back Into Working World" ![]() Anyway, props to ESPN for a story about the care and love that goes to the horses who aren't superstars.

![]() ESPN is rebroadcasting the story; it's showing on ESPN at the following times/dates:
ESPN2 Thu 11/1/2012 2:30 AM ESPN2 Thu 11/1/2012 8:00 PM ESPN2 Sat 11/3/2012 3:30 AM ESPN2 Sun 11/4/2012 6:00 AM ESPN2 Mon 11/5/2012 7:00 PM It's the third segment in the show, and Bill Nack narrates. Very sweet piece. It doesn't talk about her life post-career, but if I remember right from the updates, she's been adopted by a veterinarian who works with the farm where she trained who just fell in love with her, and is (I think) being trained for fox hunting, which should be fun for the wee girl. As for the other two, who are just briefly mentioned, the other filly has been bred, and the gelding, who suffers from water on the brain, possibly due to being denied water when he was little, will be cared for as long as he is physically comfortable. If he ever looks to be suffering, they'll perhaps make the choice to euthanize him, but for now he's living with a herd of horses and very fond of physical affection. Not a bad ending for three little runts left to starve. Take that, PETA! (That last one is for IC's benefit. ![]()

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/1...n_2046313.html IRVINE, Calif. -- Animal activists want a California roadside memorial sign to honor fish killed during a container truck crash. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals volunteer Dina Kourda told Irvine's street maintenance chief the sign would remind drivers that fish value their lives and feel pain. About 1,600 pounds of saltwater bass died on Oct. 11 when the truck hauling them to market got into a three-way crash. Kourda's letter acknowledges roadside memorials traditionally honor humans, but she hopes an exception will be made. Irvine spokesman Craig Reem says there won't be a fish memorial. But PETA spokeswoman Asheley Byrne said they will go back and ask again. |

![]() I find it extremely difficult to get on board when a memorial is for victims whose loss is measured in weight.
