Default Agree Or Disagree With This Quote?

"No racing season in America should last longer than five weeks. Some should be even shorter. And those seasons should focus on one or two major days."

I agree. You have to ask yourself would Saratoga, Keeneland and Del Mar be as highly anticipated if they were three or four months long?

For places like 'Toga and Del Mar, I agree.

But for like Canterbury and Prairie Meadows, where the summer is so short anyway, a 3 month racing season is pretty good for those tracks. CBY opens up on Derby Day, and it's kinda a sign that summer is finally coming. So yeah, it's good for some places, but too long for others.

It would be a little tough to say alternate a meet between CBY, and Prairie, and if you even wanna throw Arlington in the mix you could too. Why? Because eventhough there are some comparable level races at the 3 tracks (in the lower level claiming ranks n'stuff), the calibur of horse at Prairie is a lil bit better than Canterbury. And the calibur of horse at Arlington is a lil bit better than Prairie. But it would probably make for some nice field sizes... I'm just wondering if the talent level would be too unbalanced. That... and I don't think Prairie Meadows has a turf course lol.

I agree with it, but I would take it farther...

There should be no claiming races and if you can't break your maiden in 5 starts, you are retired to a field somewhere. I know it's crazy, but just think of all of the good races there would be...

I totally disagree with you Pointg. Claiming races are what fills sometimes more than half of a racing card at a given track. And me, a guy who loves betting crap climing races, that's where I make my $$$ in this sport. I don't make it on the 6-horse field grade 1, or that allownace 44kn1x. I make it on 5kclmN3L races. If I don't have my claiming races, I might as well just show up 2 times a year- once on Derby Day, and Once on B.C. Day.

Also, you might as well just close and board up Canterbury, Mountaineer, Chuck-town, Penn National, Remington, Delta, Evangeline, etc etc etc etc. Pretty much any track not in So-Cal, NY, Kentucky or Florida...

I do not like claiming races, can't stand them...

I wanted to be a middle linebacker for the Bengals growing up, I would have a better chance of being President...I dealt with it and moved on, that's the same way I feel about claiming races, if you can't compete on the top level...Why bother?

Why bother?
You have to be making a joke!
Only 2% of foals born are entered in a stakes race.
Only 25% even make it to the track.
I'm guessing you'd like to do away with farm teams for baseball and football.
Everyone should just show up at the Bengal's summer camp, put on their gear, and hit the field.
Yeah right!

This is how I feel, not that it's right or wrong, just my opinion...I am sure everyone could make good cases for having them...

Everybody can have an opinion...I just don't have to honor it!
Claiming races are the backbone of the sport...eliminate them and only the boys from Dubai and fat cats from Europe and billionaires from the US would be involved in the sport! How many owners can afford a two million dollar yearling? How many trainers could get by with ..oh lets see...no horses in their barn??? You would put hundreds of thousands of folks out of work, condemn tens of thousands of horses to slaughter...why? Because you don't like claiming races??? Here's an alternative...don't watch and/or bet them!!!

Like I said, I wanted to play Pro Football, never going to happen, too slow, way too slow...Does that mean it's my only line of work and I could do nothing else?

I saw that the other day, that is hilarious...I love when he's laying the beatdown on that guy and then goes "Hi Janice", like nothing happened, that is too funny...

On a sidenote, I saw you are going to Keeneland for that contest, my wife usually goes shopping in Lexington with her mom that weekend, instead of me sitting around watching bad SEC Basketball games, I may give that contest a go..
