Default Hollywood Park has reached the finish line?

http://www.latimes.com/business/la-f...,6977652.story

Key quote: "News of the Forum's return has boosted long-shelved plans by another developer for a $2-billion real estate project that would replace the nearby Hollywood Park racetrack with a large planned community, Butts said.

Work on that project, called Hollywood Park Tomorrow, will begin early next year, he said. The community is to include 3,000 residential units, stores, theaters, restaurants, a hotel and a casino."

Jeff Siegel pointed this out on twitter earlier today. Seems to be drawing surprising little comment so far and you get a sense that no one outside the Mayor of Inglewood is aware that the project is proceeding. I called Rick Hammerle to see what he's heard.

The Second Great Depression must have ended while we slept...at least in Hollywood anyways.. We must remember we're talking wacko's out there, but I have had good luck at Hollywood and it would be bad if the story is true.

A new gated community....nice touch...just what made America great.

They've been threatening this for as long as I've been a fan - Call me jaded, but I'm hard pressed to believe that a rejuvenated Western Forum would be the catalyst to get this oft threatened development project finally off it's feet.

Something about a brand new housing community smack dab in between a concert hall and a casino with the glowing lights of Costco off in the distance...
I'll believe it when I see it

Hammerle says there was some chatter about it at Clocker's Corner this morning and no one seemed to have any indication things were truly in motion on razing the track.

The real question is whose job is Vic going to try to steal when Hollywood Park closes.
