Default Question about Green Monster's "trip" in the Empire Classic today

Hi guys... I don't watch nearly as many races as most of you, but watching the replay of Green Monster's 2nd place finish to Haynesfield... just seemed like such a weird trip... If "trip" is the right word to use? How often does that happen, and what could be the reasoning for it? The only other time I've seen it, was when Funny Cide won the Jockey Club Gold Cup. If you guys didn't see the race, you can view it here.

Lone early lead, caught by surprise with early move by Haynesfield and Johannesburg Smile, still enough left in the tank to pass a tiring Johannesburg Smile.

Just my take on it.

The fact that Haynesfield staggered home has something to do with it.

Ramon moving with over 4 furlongs still left in the race helped him stagger home.

Solis let them go when they came to him, rather than speed up to engage...and then was able to " rerally " when things inevitably came apart at the eighth pole due to the premature moves.

I thought it was a crafty, if unorthodox, ride.

I hate to say it, but it reminded of Pat Day when I would bet against him. The difference is he didn't quite win which Day would do to cost me money.

For the original poster, here is Chris McCarron doing similar to win the Belmont.
