So much sad news lately..... here's something to be happy about.

From TT.....

Surgeon says Barbaro had 'excellent week'
(no author listed)

Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Barbaro continues to slowly but gradually improve as he recovers from a shattered right hind leg and acute laminitis in his left hind foot.
"He had an excellent week," said Dean Richardson, D.V.M., the chief surgeon at the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center. "We replaced the boot on his left hind foot with a bandage because the hoof is doing well."

Although he remains in the intensive care unit, Barbaro continues to be comfortable in the latest cast on his right hind leg, which he has worn for the past three weeks.

"We won't change it unless there is a reason to do so, and we will continue to monitor his comfort closely before deciding when to replace or remove this cast," Richardson said. "He is enjoying his daily excursions outside to graze, and his appetite is excellent."

Earlier this month, Richardson said Barbaro's pastern joint, which was badly broken after the start of the Preakness Stakes (G1) on May 20, appeared completely fused and that the foot affected by the laminitis had shown about a quarter-inch of hoof growth.

"He had an excellent week," said the center's chief surgeon, Dr. Dean Richardson.

Mera: would it be growing back if it was infected? When my leg was infected, it looked pretty bad, and nothing got better until I went into the hyparbaric chamber!

Mera, I think that's just dirt from his stall.

Yeah, they don't change the cast but like every two - three weeks. It gets stained and dirty. Barbaro is a horse....

The right hind was the broken leg... and no, that's not pus. Horses are horses and as long as they eat and s hit, there is going to be dirt, etc. in their stalls.

It is a cream colored cast. I think you are just comparing it to the BRIGHT WHITE wraps on his other legs.

He is a horse too. Maybe stained from poopies and pee-pees.

It gets stained from urine, sawdust shavings, and manure. Of course, I'm sure they keep the stall extra clean, but horses will be horses, and they ALWAYS find ways to get dirty. Well, most of them do anyway. I had a few horses that stayed pretty clean all of the time, but the majority love to go find the dirtiest spot and roll whether they are in their paddock or in their stall. It almost never fails to happen.

You should see my horse (he's a silver grey with black legs). Everytime I wash him the night before I show him. Well, the next morning, I have to rewash him because he has huge manure stains all over him. I even put jammies, blankets, and leg wraps on him. His stall is always spotless when I leave the barn the night before a show. Still, he manages to get dirty every time.

I had a flea-bitten grey just like that... gorgeous horse that he was, I'd get out to the barn at 4:30am to get ready for the show and he was covered from head to hoof in shiat. LMAO

Ghetto, but here he is:

I know the feeling, my black/white pinto masterfully only gets manure on her white spots!!!! I highly recommend CowboyMagic Green Spot Remover! I have bought enough to be a partner in the company!
