Hurricane
I figured I would start a thread entitled "Hurricane" since we have one called "Earthquake". I hope all DTers and their families are safe and seek refuge from this storm as advised. It's a big storm, lots of rain and surge with it.

99-1 Shot Plus Some

My buddy's Bahamian in-laws have called from their satellite phone and are okay. House has roof damage, the fishing boat (their income source) survived, but they say Irene caused more damage to the islands than their last big direct hit, Andrew.
They are being told the power will be back on within a week (it was shut off as a precaution midnight Wedneseday/Thursday), but phone/cell phone could be well over a month. The four legged cell tower on the next island over was snapped in half. I hope everybody in Irene's path on the east coast can stay safe this weekend. |

The surge is a concern considering high tide and the new moon.
The storm is weakening a little. Hope it continues to do so. Norfolk is f.ucked either way. |

They need to get out of dodge. The ground is already saturated and the wind will have branches flying everywhere. Norfolk will be flooded. Power outages up and down the coast.
Mass chaos. |

Concerned that alot of people are not respecting this storm based on the Cat 1 status. It is so much more, so large. I learned something today in that the winds 20 stories up are much stronger then the Cat 1 rating. Storm surge, flooding, man be safe. A very good friend of mine from Middle and Junior High is a Chief Dispatcher for 911 in New York City and I'll just say this, he is planning on a night and day only one can imagine. Be safe.

Glad it certainly wasn't what everyone was predicting, but still some pretty intense damage in places along the east coast.
