Default Congratulations to Steve Davidowitz

Congratulations to Steve Davidowitz on qualifying for what I believe is his first National Handicapping Championship today.

Thats great but I'm a little shocked. Here is a guy that has written multiple books telling people how to handicap and his career is handicapping and this is the first time he has qualified? Maybe the "Experts" don't try to qualify because doing so and failing would expose them to be mere mortals like the rest of us (Hockey) excluded since he runs a "syndicate"

Have no idea how long Davidowitz has tried getting into the NHC... I do know we'll certainly hear about it Wednesday on ATR. But success or failure in tourney play has very little to do with how expert anyone is as a handicapper. It has everything to do with how expert someone is as a tourney player. Tournament play is a very different animal than traditional horseplay.

Qualifying is not easy. Try it sometime and you will see for yourself. In any given year, there are more than 100,000 entries into a qualifying contest with only about 300 making the finals. This is what makes the NHC so special. You can't buy your way in. You have to earn it.

I have been in contests with Steve Davidowitz before but I wouldn't call him a regular on the contest scene. That said, my congratulations were sincere as his performance yesterday in besting a field of 220 very accomplished handicappers is something to be proud of.

Qualifying for the NHC is difficult. Whatever your opinion of contests is, qualifying for the NHC is truly an accomplishment. Congrats to Steve Davidowitz.
