Default golf question

Kev or anyone else feel free to answer

It looks like Tiger is coming back at the Masters

my question is since the Masters is an invitational event (it has exmpetions that you can get) did the comittee have the option to not invite him at all this year even though he has an exemption?

for those of you who don't follow golf the masters has nothing to do with the usga or the pga tour - they have this 1 event a yr and the members call all the shots and report to no one

Isn't the Masters an event that if you win you have a lifetime exemption?

nick you are correct - im not saying he doesn't have an exemption this year or any year in the future he has an exemption

but you still have to get the invitation every year , the question that maybe only gpk would know the answer to is - do they have to send him an invitation?

my guess and it could be wrong is that they don't have to send an invitation to anybody even if they are exempt

Augusta National is sovereign over their tourney, they will do whatever they want and have to answer to nobody.

All the sponsors and the womens rights groups had such a profound affect upon Augusta here recently, you are probably right.

What possible reason would the Masters not want Tiger Woods?

None. They certainly aren't going to exclude him for cheating on his wife.

there is none chuck

my only point which only gpk may know for sure is they don't have to invite anybody if they don't want to even if that said player has earned an exemption - the usga or the pga of america or the pga tour could not exclude someone who has earned an exemption

it's not going to happen, it just came up in a discussion at the local muni

I remember reading on the net how the sponsors had pressured someone like Sandy Lyle to "maybe" not suit up for the tourney.

Billy Payne and the boys can essentially do anything they want in regards to The Masters. If they felt so moved, they could "suggest" to Tiger that it might be in the best interests off all parties involved that he sit out this year, but that would never happen. The men that run Augusta National are some of the sharpest business minds around. They know what it means to have Tiger there.

that's all i was asking kev , we had a discussion at the local muni about the formant of the masters - it's an inviational and just because a player has an exemption it doesn't mean they will get an invite 100% guaranteed

it wouldn't even be a question with the usga , r+a or pag becuase legally i don't think they could turn away any exempt player
