FORMULATOR PP'S Monday afternoon experiment begins By Mary Rampellini Sam Houston Race Park in Houston has long been known as a night-time track that typically runs Thursday through Sunday. But on Monday afternoon, Sam Houston will begin an experiment with its racing schedule. The track has added four Monday programs to its lineup for the remainder of March, and each will have a daytime post of 1:20 p.m. Central. "Currently we have 350 outlets in North and South America, Europe, and the Caribbean wagering on us on any given night," said Frank Hopf, director of simulcasting for Sam Houston. "I am hoping we will get one new outlet for Monday, but am anticipating higher handle numbers from Europe with afternoon racing." There will be free general admission to Sam Houston on Mondays. The local ESPN radio affiliate will broadcast live for a portion of the Monday cards as part of the track's Monday March Mania. The first Monday card will be comprised of nine races, including two allowances. There will be night posts for Sam Houston's remaining race week of Thursday through Saturday. The track races through April 3. 7th (3:56 CT) 1 Mile (Turf) | Fillies and Mares | 4 Year Olds And Up Allowance | Purse: $17,500 1 1 Sultry Mountain Morales B T Ray Jimmy L 118 L 15-1 2 2 Rock Steady Rochabrun J Broberg Karl 118 L 6-1 3 3 Munny Be de Lock Chacaltana J Offolter Joe S 118 L 5-1 4 4 G Irish Rodriguez F T Willis Mindy 118 L 6-1 5 5 Xiano Guzman J Garcia Rhonda 118 L 7-1 6 6 The Cat Who Tejera E A Davidson M Brent 118 L 7-2 7 7 Bentonia Contreras A McKnight Rennie 118 L 12-1 8 8 Cherry Pink Nolan P M Jenkins Bobby A 118 L 5-2 WPS / Exacta / Quinella / Trifecta / Superfecta (.10 cent minimum) Pick 3 (Races 7-8-9)
