CHAMPION FLANDERS DEAD
By Ray Paulick http://www.paulickreport.com/blog/ch...flanders-dead/ Flanders, the 1994 Eclipse Award-winning juvenile filly who defeated stablemate Serena’s Song in one of the most exciting editions of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies ever run, was euthanized in mid-February after complications arose following a paddock accident in December at Coolmore’s Ashford Stud in Kentucky. The daughter of Seeking the Gold out of the Storm Bird mare Starlet Storm had been purchased by Coolmore boss John Magnier for $400,000 from the Overbrook Farm dispersal, with Eaton Sales as agent, during the Keeneland November breeding stock sale in 2009. She was 18 at the time of her death.

Sad news... I remember when she was running.... Doesn't seem like it was 15 yrs ago

From the article in the BH it appears they kept her going until she foaled. She was in foal to Bernardini. They put the foal on a nurse mare.
She must have been one tough horse to get hurt so badly and still carry her foal to term. I will watch that foal's career for sure. I know all animals go to heaven once they pass from here. They have to, they do not have the vices of man greed, deceit, unfaithful ........ My deep end comment for the day, sorry. All this snow has finally gotten to me.
