What a horrible story! They were still racing him when he could barely walk?????

Ankles the size of softballs?

At least this reader didn't get the impression of any agendas being forwarded here.

According to Doug O'Neill, Lava Man was not happy being retired. He's happiest when he's on the track. You can hear it in Doug's own words below:

Roger Stein interviews Doug O'Neil on Sunday, December 6

Choose the December 6 archive. O'Neill interview begins about 20 minutes in. Prior to Doug O'Neill, Roger also interviewed Kieran McLaughlan on the December 6 show. Good stuff.

Unfortunately some won't bother to read it, or try and understand it, before they leap to their opinions.

I do appreciate the complete transparency, as with Barbaro.

I totally agree with you. It's disgraceful that they continued racing him in that condition.

I guess the horses lost during "the killing spree" a few weeks back werent important enough to be treated with this therapy.

i was more supportive of the return before reading this article. if they only wanted him healed up to enjoy retirement, than i think it's a shame they're sending him back to training instead. will they wait til he's too sore to even go in a pasture before they retire him again?

A scratch because the "all-weather" surface is going to be wet? Really? So the surface is there for horse safety and it's ability to withstand bad weather, and now LM is going to scratch why? Cause the all-weather surface during rain is unsafe? Yep. It's all making sense now.

I got lasik eyes a couple years ago. I could use a new knee, shoulder, and wrist.

Running the horse until he was lame bordered on criminal from the standpoint of the horse's health as well as burning the bettor's money on an animal the connections knew was not right. However, it really is pretty exciting that medicine has come this far and that it will help humans in the future. I can see it now....90 year olds running 2 and half hour marathons..
