Breeders' Cup considering fewer races
By Matt Hegarty

http://www.drf.com/news/article/105418.html

On a conference call Friday, Breeders' Cup officials acknowledged that the creation of the 14 divisions had made the series difficult to follow, and they said that the number of races may need to be pared.

"The concern is, how do we lead into 14 different races, in 14 different divisions," said Greg Avioli, chief executive of the organization. "It's very difficult to do with 14 divisions."

Why do I think that, if they were not broke, they'd think 14 divisions was still super

What is done is done and we are where we are... but at least we're hearing positive, proactive voices who used outside help to formulate a broad plan for the event going forward. What comes of it? Who knows.

Does that mean that the 3 mile super marathon for grey geldings is a no go for this year?

All this just a few weeks after the latest expansion of Win and You're In.

What could possibly have transpired in this short amount of time to inspire this potential turn around?

That was my initial thought as well. Indian Charlie should start a thread regarding this.

Give him credit for seeing the obvious.

Does before mean the original 7 races, or does it include the F&M Turf?

I'd include the F&M Turf. I'd probably eliminate the turf sprint race though, and maybe I'd eliminate the juvenile turf races.

Interesting to see what they might cut. I will admit, I hadn't paid attention to the exact number of races they'd overextended themselves by.

I was kinda hoping for a relay race in the BC.

Like, six Indian Charlie's against six AP Indys.

The race would start with one of each going against each other head to head, say maybe six furlongs. As each runner passes through a light beam of some sort, that would release the gate doors for his/her teammate to start the next leg. Say maybe nine furlongs.

That way if the winner of the first leg wins by 3 lengths, the team member of the next leg would get the appropriate head start.

I'd make the final leg something really short, say 3 furlongs, or something really long, like 15 furlongs.

It would revolutionize racing. You could also expand it to have a Team Pletcher vs Team Ass vs Team Dutrows, etc...

Think of the amazing possibilities!

Better yet, maybe have an owner/stable relay. Say team Godolphin/Darley vs Team Zayat! It could be the underachievers relay race, g1, purse 48 million!
