Abandonment in Italy leaves Brit duo stranded

BRITISH-TRAINED duo Pressing and Laa Rayb were stranded in the east of France on Friday after racing in Italy, including Sunday's Group 1 Premio Vittorio di Capua at San Siro, was abandoned.

The Irish-trained King Jock and Rock Of Rochelle had already made the trip to Milan before trouble over a reduction in government takeout from turnover erupted.

Group 1 winner Pressing, trained by Michael Jarvis, and the Mark Johnston-trained Laa Rayb were due to run in the Group 1, for which six foreign horses were declared but Laa Rayb last night returned to Johnston's Middleham yard.

Officials are hopeful that racing will resume ahead of next Saturday's Gran Premio del Jockey Club and Gran Criterium at San Siro.
